Everyone has a own reason for Juan Manuel Marquez's stunning knockout of Manny Pacquiao. Some say it was a lucky punch while others say Pacquiao had it coming.

Of all the explanations put forth, perhaps the most unique is the one offered by Pacquiao's mother, Dionisia Pacquiao. Dionisia, a devout Catholic, blamed her son's loss on his change of religion.

Pacquiao grew up Catholic but recently converted to Protestantism.

"ThatÂ’s what he gets for changing his religion," Dionisia said in an interview in General Santos City. "Since the 'Protestant' pastors came into his life, he has not focus on his boxing."

Dionisia says Manny has been distracted by his new faith, and she is not afraid to "face the pastors no matter who they are."

"Why did they take my son?" Dionisia asked, according to according to Yahoo! Sports Philippines. "When he was quiet and was a champion when he belonged to his former religion?"

Pacquiao has now lost to Timothy Bradley and Marquez since his much-publicized religious transformation earlier this year. But before fighting Bradley, Pacquiao swore that, if anything, he was a better boxer because of his new faith.

As an atheist, I find these kind of excuses specially ******ed

Seriously, people should go back to blaming Pac's socks, it's a more credible excuse

Props to Pac for spitting on his family's religion anyway, that's one of the first signs of maturity in men. Protestantism is meh, though, it'd be more cool if he had picked something radical like scientology or rastafarianism

Well, the truth is Pacquiao seems to be always trying to find something else to hold on to in life. He must not be a happy person.

I'm a christian, beleive in God, but yeah... Those excuses are total crap!
I go to a non-denominational church, and I cannnot wrap my head around the enormous deal what demoination you are. Theres seemingly hundreds of different denominations (all who beleive in Christ which is the most important), and they have different interperations as to what things mean. The bible clearly says over and over though that people should be united, love your enemy, respect eachother, etc, etc. I respect all beleifs, but how they come to the thinking there denomination is better than another, and don't respect anybody, when they all read out of the same bible (most do) is mind boggling.

Also as for his faith making Pac not being able to train as much. Did everybody forget the fact he was struggling with partying, women, gambling, etc??? He went from wasting time with that crap to using time to read his bible, worship god, something beyond himself. If anything I think his seat in the Phillipines would be more hindrance on his training than reading....
