Just rewatched Pacquiao vs Marquez II and Pacquiao vs de la Hoya back to back and I kept comparing his performance against Marquez and de la Hoya and you can clearly see how different his movement was between both fights. His footwork wasn't there against Marquez but he looked so smooth against de la Hoya, circling him and going in and out with impressive foot movement. Oscar was way past it, sure, but I was very impressed with his performance that night.
I just hope Pacquiao shows that he has indeed improved his game once he faces Marquez in the ring for the last time. That would clear all doubts.

He looked phenomenal against De La Hoya because he had an old man infront of him who couldn't do a damn thing to slow him down. Pacquiao's contrast in performances had less to do with Manny and more to do with his competition.

The things you notice should be expected. Of course a young and fast P4P champion is going to have great footwork against an old man who hadn't fought at welterweight in SEVEN YEARS!!!!! Above average win- yeah. Championship level win- probably. An ATG legacy elevating win- no, aside from PPV sales, which don't show up in the ring, hell no.

Yeah, Oscar couldn't do anything to control Manny Pacquiao. Marquez, on the other hand, didn't allow Manny to go wherever he wanted. That's why the footwork looked better against Oscar. If the same Pacquiao that fought Oscar showed up against Marquez, the footwork wouldn't have looked as smooth or as fluid as it did with DLH.

Pacquiao was weight drained in the JMM 2 fight.

His footwork "wasn't there?" No, an elite and fluid combination-throwing counter-puncher was taking away his punching angle and rotating away from his left hand while negating the space between them when Pacquiao lunged in order to use his momentum against him accurately and consistently.

Against a very sub-optimal and static De La Hoya, his lateral movement and offensive arsenal looked much more dynamic, because those things weren't there.

And no, this third meeting will not "clear all doubts" because any trouble Pacquiao had making 130 could not compare to the gap between them in age and weight at this point; their most even meeting already happened at 130.
