    How hard does Pacquiao actually hit? I think that Pac doesn't hit as hard as people claim. These are all the factors in Pacs "power", 1) the opponent 2) the condition of the opponent 3) catch weights/ weight drainage 4) glove size. Look at Pac's last 5 opponents, they are all truly different fighters but they all were coming off of recent loses and unimpressive wins against lesser opponents; Oscar lost to Floyd Jr. then had an unimpressive win against Steve Forbes. Hatton also lost to Floyd Jr and had 2 unimpressive wins over Juan Lazcano and Paulie Malignaggi. Cotto was battered by Margarito and had a dull win over Micheal Jennings and a questionable decision over Joshua Clottey. Margarito got creamd' by Mosley then got a dull win over Robert Garcia;

    The catch weights were used to drain these fights so they would be slow and unable to pull the trigger;

    Now here's where I question his raw power, he drained Oscar from about 160 down to 147, then on fight night he outweighed Oscar but he couldn't even put Oscar, a weightdrained/ old/ shot fighter on his butt

    When have you ever seen a Welterweight/Middleweight fight use 8oz gloves? They have less weight/padding on them which makes a big difference down the stretch.

    so what do you guys think?

    It's all about accuracy. Pac has pinpoint shots and even though he doesn't have the power of a big WW, he can earn anyone's respect because he hits them clean and hard and on the right place.

    Even Clottey was feeling those body shots and if you don't believe me just look at him shaking off his legs very often during the fight!

    I think PAC has good power for his size at 147 and up...it's not the best simply b/c he's not a true WW or Jr MW. He's a jr WW or a lightwieght.

    But the problem lies with his opponents UNDERESTIMATING his power. Whne they get in there with him they expect light punches from a small man but when they get is a rude awakening. So it surprises them and the speed, awkwardness and skills doesn't allow them to adjust.

    I think this could have been a great discussion. Alas, the first post is primarily about the same "catchweight king" bull**** we've heard so many times before.

    You know what else? He's not really fast, it's just the slowness of his opponents. And he has zero skill. It's just that his opponents all suck on the night he beats them. And he's not really Asian. It's just that most of his opponents have really, really round eyes and it makes him look Asian by comparison. The guy's an absolute fraud!

    I don't think Pac's punches are in the top10 most accurate in the division, bcuz as we seen from the Clottey fight he just throws his shots he doesn't place them

    see I didn't say he couldn't hit, I said his power was overrated...he uses 8oz gloves, I swore 10oz gloves were regulation for the welter division? If pac can KO a top 10 contender/champ in 10oz gloves w/ no catchweight then I will take it back

    yeah but no one cares because everyone knows pac isnt the hardest hitter at 147 and it's his accumulation and accuracy that does the damage. so we accept what you're saying... now **** off

    wrong.

    You are letting one fight throw you off which is a real noob mistake. In the Clottey fight he was placing his shots on Clottey's arms to keep him in his shell and easily outscore him or keep him blinded so the final punch of the combo could go around the guard. It's not that he was missing his shots it's just that he was purposely using a high output on Clottey's guard which counts as a missed punch in the stats

    That's why his % was low.

    Look at his power punch % against Oscar, Hatton, Cotto, Margarito...

    Pacquiao vs Oscar 59%
    Pacquiao vs Hatton 62%
    Pacquiao vs Cotto 49%
    Pacquiao vs Margarito 58%

    The WW average is in the low 30s.

    Catchweights are allowed to even the playing field. If you say catchweights are used to drain a fighter, then why do these fighters agree on catchweights in the first place?

    Isn't it illogical to agree on a catchweight knowing you'll lose?
