Pacquiao's ranking as an ATG if/when he beats Floyd?

Armstrong held three titles simultaneously when there were only eight. You really think Pac beating Mayweather puts Pac in that company?

People have long been comparing Pacquiao to Armstrong

If he wins then I'd say hes right there with him

 

I've heard people compare Pac to Ray Robinson, that doesn't make it so. Everyone has their own opinion. I personally put Armstrong in the top three of atgs. If Pac beats Mayweather decisively, he may crack the top thirties imo but that's just me.

 

Hard to say, since I don't have a ranking system lol pretty damn high I'd imagine though. He's already had a stellar career and resume, adding Mayweather's scalp would be extremely impressive.

 

If there were only 8 weight divisions today Pacquiao could have obviously matched that of even bettered that achievement.

Pac is an 8 weight world champion, Fighter of the decade, and 3 time fighter of the year, he has continually moved up and beat up naturally bigger guys and not just any guys, world champions and future hall of famers.

and then if Manny tops it all off by beating Mayweather then it absolutley puts Pacquiao in that company.

What? If there were eight divisions today, Pac would have been lineal in maybe two, probably just one. On the otherhand, transposing Armstrong's record to today, he would have been lineal in six different divisions at the same time. There is no real comparison.

 

Beating a faded mayweather is still a good win

I've never heard anyone compare pacman to Henry Armstrong or Ray robinson. He doesn't fight anything like them whatsoever.

I've heard people compare him to Duran though, and I see some similarities although Duran was a better boxer and had much better defense than pacman. Pacman definitely had the quicker hands though.

Anyway if he beats Floyd, it would be huge. He'd pick up his biggest win to put on his ATG resume. I'd have to say top 20. This fight is significant for the legacy of both fighters, especially if one person can dominate the bout.

 

It really depends the nature of the win, but being Pacman had the more disadvantages, being the underdog,and if it's a close fight, Pacman really has more to benefit clearly. Either ways, right now they are clearly top 40-50, a win by either puts them in the top 30, tho I'm sure most might put either in their top 20. If either one gets a hold of a middleweight crown, I wouldn't argue against that. If it's against someone like GGG, tho, damn straight we in the presence of a true atg, clear top 10 to give even SRR a run for his money.

 

Great post I'm with that you can't compare eras, a few all time great from the past if they fight now days they are journeymans at best. Diferent training, diets, exercises today athletes are very physical prepared and with very advance techniques.
