= Shane, the #1 WW in the World coming off a destruction win over Margarito, the destroyer of Cotto, is still to good...and it helps that Cotto is on my payroll so as a Promoter, I make bank and still have options on him.
We were discussing various years for Pac and Mosley and I was sticking to those two considering the thread. But if you want to bring up Mayweather and Duran...I'm sure there are other threads we can try to bump. But yes, better for Pac to fight Floyd now than had the Universe somehow put those two together at 135. If Roach thought Shane was "to good"...Floyd at LW (when healthy )... As for Duran...considering Roach believes Duran beats Pac...would that fight be made? Good fights other way. Nobody knows what really would happen. It's more of a "I would favor this guy over that guy based on this and that" kind of thing.
In hindsight tho, you guys think it would've been better is Pac went from Cotto to Mosley (147) then to Margarito (154), then maybe Clottey (154) afterwards (if Clottey is still relevant)? Maybe they could even replace Clottey with Foreman so I might really consider him an 8 division champ.
Why wouldn't they choose Cotto? he barely got by Clottey and got smashed by Margarito. Pac likes his welterweights nice and worn in before fighting them
Mosley came to the table asking for 40% and said that he wouldn't make money an issue (in other words he was flexible on that offer). Nevermind the fact that Pacquiao-Mosley sold more PPVs than Pacquiao-Cotto... And that was after Shane was already clearly shot to ****. They chose to fight Cotto because Cotto wasn't coming off an impressive win over Margarito. He was coming off an assraping at the hands of Margarito and a lackluster showing against Clottey. Scroll to 7:20 and Freddy will tell you the same: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4I6kx0QW7mU[/ame] ... Stupid fliptard. :yep
I can't really tell if Pac can do better than his performance over Diaz @135.. I mean, that was one masterful performance.. But still, just 1 fight.. :think If only Oscar did not try to cherry pick Pac, then we would have seen Pac vs Juan Diaz, Casamayor, or Katsidis.. And to be honest, I can't see those three make 12 rounds.. :smoke Mayweather or Duran vs Pac would be.. :think I can't compare it because he only fought once, Sorry..
The Foreman who fought Cotto? That's gonna be a bad match-up.. Foreman was already leading by a wide margin against Cotto.. Until he hurt his knee and that made him a stationary target.. :-( Imagine that Foreman vs Pac who's not used to cut the ring.. Bad match-up.. :smoke
I just think he should have taken on Mosley after Mosley beat Margarito. It probably was risky if you are looking at it from Roach's point of view on how he felt about the Oscar situation and how he was looking at Shane after he destroyed Margarito...but I can't say Pac wouldn't have been able to beat Shane at that point. Why not? It's not like Shane was still prime. Maybe he can win with his youth, speed, endurance, etc. Especially if he can take Shane into deep waters. If Shane lands some shots on him though, specifically like those body and head shots he was landing on Margarito (although two different people so I understand that)...that might suck. But who knows. I think the risk would have been cool and it would have been a good fight at that time. Smart business decision. I'll give Team Pac that.
Well, I don't really believe Roach as much as I don't really believe Mayweather.. :smoke I am a fan of Mayweather's fighting style and Roach's game-plan.. Other than that, I don't really believe them.. :nono :bart Until you can't find other team Pacquioa member, I won't give any credibility to those videos.. :bart If money is not an issue, Mosley won't insist 60/40 split.. :deal Pacquioa fought Cotto @145 and won a one-sided fight.. Pacquioa fought Mosley @147 and won another one-sided fight.. And those are facts.. :deal Try again ******ed *****.. :smoke
Really? :smoke [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9EZXI1MvpDE[/ame] That's not what I saw.. I thought Cotto was on the way of losing until round 7.. :deal
Even more proof you can't score a fight. Try watching the whole fight instead of a 5 minute highlight. Wide margin
I thought it was because Oscar was the cash cow back then and he offer Manny a fight.. A chance to beat the cash cow.. :hey And Pac won! That makes him the new cash cow.. That brought a lot of opportunities.. Fight bigger names like Hatton, and after they beat Cotto campaigned @147.. Bigger accomplishments.. :thumbsup
