    Growth hormone test set

By From Wire Services | July 29, 2004
Olympic athletes in Athens will be tested for the banned stimulant human growth hormone for the first time following research at a British university, Dick Pound, head of the World Anti-Doping Agency, said.
"Up until now we've never had a test reliable enough that we were prepared to use," Pound said in a televised Bloomberg News interview.
The test, formulated by researchers at Southampton University in southern England and developed at laboratories in Germany, Australia, and the United States, will be carried out on urine and blood samples taken from athletes.
The hormone, which stimulates the growth of muscles and bones, was added to the International Olympic Committee's list of banned substances in 1989 and has remained undetectable until now. Last week, the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne, Switzerland, cleared Australian sprint cyclist Sean Eadie of trying to import the substance in 1998 and '99.
Tests carried out at an anti-doping laboratory in Athens will reveal if an athlete has taken the drug in the past 36 hours. The samples will then undergo a second analysis that will show if it has been taken up to 84 days before the Olympics.
"We've got something that not only detects it but will go back a considerable period of time and pick up people who have taken it before and are getting the benefit of it now," Pound said.
Clare Hartley of the Southampton University team that has worked on the test since 1997 said human growth hormone benefits athletes by turning fat into muscle. It increases energy levels and helps them recover from injuries. "The International Olympic Committee has wanted this for a long time," she said.

The article shows that even with a 30 day cut off date that PEDs can still be detected.

clearly the article states the tests can go back 84 days....

Thus showing that a blood/urine test immediately following the fight would show that he was clean or dirty during the entirety of training camp... the test after the initial press conference would show no HgH use 3 months prior to training camp..

It's all rediculous. I know there's many athletes who are willing to hurt themselves by doing PED's to win...But yet...There's far to many freakin whiners when they lose blaming illegal drugs!
Unless your in something besides bodybuilding, or strongman then drugs aren't going to make a ton of difference unless there's a SHITLOAD in your system whenever you participate. Yeah, things like steroids give you more energy, heal your body faster, make you bigger, but yet...Incorporate that in to boxing?!
Might help there training camp a little bit, but so could whey protein. Come fight night they have to weighin (so there goes the benefits of getting bigger), there's no way your going to manage to get by using it THE DAY OF THE FIGHT (so there's your roid rage gain). Only help would be to train harder, and even at that...If a boxer trains to hard it can be a bad thing.
It's all rediculous. Floyd could have watched tapes to see how Pac reacts to drug testing, and his superstitions. It's just a ploy to either get it out of the fight, or hold a psychological edge over Pac (if Pac said yes). Steroids are overrated when it comes to fighting. If you suck...You suck. Drugs aren't going to make much of a difference.
If Floyd is a superior fighter at say 147...He would be superior against another 147 pder no matter what! I'm a pac fan, and I wouldn't care if Floyd admitted he was taking steroids daily, they allowed him too, and Pac wasn't allowed. If Pac lost...I woudln't blame steroids!

There is irrifutable proof that it takes the average human being no more than 30 minutes to recover from having 6mL of blood withdrawn. There is zero proof that you need 30 days to recover. Ergo, a 14 day window is way more than fair.

Wether the proposed 14 day window is fair or not fair, this clearly shows that by accepting random urinalysis until the day of the fight + random blood analysis until 24 days out from the fight, any doubts about Pac being on PEDs have been dispelled.

Sorry to break it to the haters, but if this quote from the head of the World Anti-Doping Agency is legit, Pacquiao is clean.
