Biggest fight in the history of the sport and after 1 round with Floyd Pac basically threw in the towel. Everybody saw how Pac totally froze and gave up his game plan after the first right hand Floyd hit him with! Yeah Floyd snatched his Heart in the first round and that was that, fight over
He had a bad gameplan. Truthfully, he just doesn't have the attributes to beat FLoyd. He's become a little too gun shy when it comes to letting his combinations go. He just doesn't have the size or IQ to beat someone like FLoyd. And in all honesty, that wasn't even one of FLoyd's better performances. He could've stepped on the gas and put some combinations together to see if he could maybe drop Manny at least. I'd expect him to be more dominant in a rematch.
Actually Pac had a good round...his only one...around the 4th I believe, so it's not like he "froze" after the first round. I'd say by the 8th both Pac and Roach knew he was in over his head and just went through the motions the rest of the fight. So I guess we all paid $100 for one competitive round.
Just saying, the fact that Pacquiao fought with a torn cuff and didn't quit it or complain (until media brought it up) should tell you he has heart. Like Kellerman said, those times where he had moments like the two flurries in round 4 and 6 and then he backed off for good, maybe that was him trying as hard as he could with the injury and then ended up saying, "Welp that's all I have."
But media didn't bring it up, his excuses making team did, and most believed he backed off of those flurries because Floyd defended it properly and he was worried about being countered. Also part of his gameplan, according to Roach, was short quick flurries not sustained attacks. They wanted to stay out of the pocket with Floyd were Roach thought he was most dangerous. Therefore they chose to fight Floyd on the outside, a boxing match with the best boxer in the world? Either way it was a lose-lose situation
It was recently said that Pac told someone he almost quit in the 4th round. People got remember these dudes are fighters and their pain tolerance is probably a lot better than the avg folk. They're used to fighting with pain.
