It only means he cannot fight at middleweight. He's realistic about it when he was this question. You can't force the poor guy to go up again.
There are three other 154 pound champions why are you asking pacquiao to defend a 154 pound title against the 160 pound champ? Is it not good enough for him to maybe fight contenders in that weight division instead? Or is it because you think no one in 154 lbs can actually touch Pacquiao that's why you're asking him to fight a 160 pounder?
**** 150lbs. Pac should decide which weightclass to compete in and let boxing rules to decide the limit. Martinez never lost the very belt Pac is holding now, he simply vacated, and I'd love to see him getting it back.
You know that's not how it works. And there's precedents decades ago about catchweights like this. At least Pacquiao hasn't made anybody lose 7 lbs of weight for a championship like SRL has done yet. Don't say DLH, DLH was the one who made the 147 stipulation, not Pacquiao. That's why he fought at 151 lbs before their match. And Pacquiao had to climb from 135.
Martinez is willing to compromise and fight at 154lbs, Pac is not willing to compromise at all, Pac is the 154lb champion and he's asking Martinez to fight him below 150lbs. Sugar Ray Leonard never fought at catch weights for paper titles in his prime when he was p4p #1, all of his notable fights Duran, Hearns 1, Hagler were not at catchweights, Pac is the p4p #1 right now. He just fought a 165lb man and won every round, the difference is that 165lb man is a punching bag and Martinez isn't.
i think Pac is at the point now where he can just sit at at least one division which i think is 147 and fight. Floyd Berto Bradely(when he moves up) Khan(when he moves up) Alexander(when he moves up) I think Floyd plus one of these fighters and he should call it a career he doesnt need to fight big men anymore he has captured his 8th tittle no way can he fight at 160 and i dont think people are too keen on another catchweight for a tittle....he should just stick to 147 where there are still very lucrative fights and all legacy building type fights.
because there aren't worthwhile fighters at 154 that can put people in seats and get 'em to buy the ppv event... until just recent fights wasn't this martinez's natural weight? hell you could say he's almost undersized for a middleweight.
I would be very happy if Floyd accepts the fight against Martinez for the MW title. No catch weights will be better. But to consider their size difference, then 156lbs, the lowest weight Sergio said he can go down, will be good enough.
Pac should beat people at correct weight not another fighter drained to come closer to Pac's own weight. SM left 154 for a reason, he feels his body performs better @ 160. Anyway LDB would never agree to any BS of Roach's negotiation on weight [beat my man at right weight or no fight]
the guy is like 5'4" (really) and walks around at like 148 pounds, dripping wet. for people to call him a coward for not being able to jump up to 160 to fight martinez , or to fight at a catchweight is ridiculous. catchweights exist for a reason , to make it hard for BOTH parties and fairer at the same time. The larger man has as much an advantage to start with as the smaller man does by asking him to reduce, as the smaller man has to gain . in the past- fighters that came DOWN to catchweights- were called the coward, for taking advantage of a smaller guy- and not being able to clear a whole division weight wise, now we re calling out pac for not being 160 pounds!??! just the fact that this fight is considered a compliment to pac- not an insult for him not being able to be a credible 154 pounder. i mean this criticism of pac and floyd is getting out of hand. the guys have cleaned out divisions from 130 - 147- give them a bit of slack for doing what theyve done- and not criticise them for being simply small. we dont hold the same expectation of hopkins for not fighting heavyweights do we??!
In no way do i wana see a pac mosley fight, it looks like shane has declined too much to make it competitive. There is only a pretty small chance mosley can pull out a great performance and make a good fight but chances are he will get hurt so leave it be i think. Its got to be pac v floyd.
I laugh at people calling Pacquiao not willing to compromise. His compromise IS 150 pounds. He never wanted to fight over 147, and neither did Roach. They only let Margarito weigh in at 150 because he couldn't make 147 anymore. WBC, like the vultures that they are, sanctioned the fight as a title match because of money. He can't even go over 150 lbs on fight night. Either way, almost all of the 154 pounders will be betting underdogs if Pacquiao ever decides to fight them. The only one I can see that can clearly beat Pacquiao's speed in 154 is Sergei Dzinziruk. This goes into the question again, if you want Pacquiao to defend his 154 belt, there are more than enough 154 pounders out there. Defending the 154 belt against the 160 lb champion is only going to lead people to say that Pacquiao should defend against another 160 pounder if he even beats Martinez, because yeah, if you beat the 160 lb champ below the 160 limit, you still end up winning the man's belts like SRL vs Lalonde for the 175 belt. Besides, Sergio said 156 is lowest he can go. You going to take Dibella's word over Sergio?
Pac stepped up and took some heavy punishment from a guy that weighed 165. He clearly realized his limit after that fight. To call Pac a coward for not wanting to fight @ 154 is ****ing ******ed. That Pac is even willing to fight at 150 is a testament of his courage. Instead of pushing Pac to fight Martinez, people should be pushing Floyd. ****ing pathetic. :hi:
At least Pac would make the fight, he's not talking about who's worth money or not and that kind of ***** ****.
