pacquiao's handspeed is impressive indeed but, floyd mayweather jr. has the fastest hands in boxing. additionally, someone wrote on this thread that pacquiao had "mad skills". he may have good skills but hardly "mad" skills. he sure didn't look that great against the last fighter he was tested with (marquez). david diaz was there to be hit all night long. oscar wasn't there and hatton had absolutely zero defense. so no, pacquiao is a great FIGHTER but not one with "mad" skills. in fact, i can name alot of fighters with "madder" skills than pacquiao. what sets pacquiao apart is his offense. his offense is the thing that hides his defensive liabilities.
i think cotto's handspeed and boxing skills are getting dangerously overlooked by team pacquiao. i think if cotto utilizes his great jab and pounds the body, pacquiao is going to be in alot of trouble early. it seems like roach and arum are seriously overlooking cotto and looking forward for mayweather/pacquiao which is going to be a huge mistake.
I don't think that they're overlooking Cotto in the least bit. Roach has said that Cotto is an all around fighter and will be the toughest fight of Pac's career; both of which I agree with. I fully expect them to be prepared for Cotto and that if any mistakes are made it won't be because of preparation, or lack there of.
would love cotto to win but not sure first time in ages a truely 50 -50 fight which could go either way
beenie, sure they're (pacquiao's team) overlooking cotto! what do you think all this jibber-jabber is all about by arum and roach? sometimes they act as if cotto is a foregone conclusion which is going to more than ever motivate cotto and his team cause pacquiao's team isn't showing cotto any respect.
Thats the main factor in the fight. Cotto has fought fast fighters and been successful. Cotto's better timing, jab and body punching will kill all that noise. Pac does not have tricky foot work. He comes in and he goes out straight lines.
I agree that Cotto's well timed and powerful jab will be the key to any success that he has however Pac's speed from the south paw stance should be something that the Cotto contingent should indeed be concerned about. Quintana troubled Cotto early with well timed left hand leads and counters and I see no reason why Pacquiao won't enjoy even more success with the left hand considering his superior speed and power. Pac's footwork and overall rhythm isn't exactly conventional and it's yet to be determined how Cotto adjusts to Pac's awkwardness.
So that in your mind translates to Roach and Pac overlooking Cotto? Apparently you haven't read Roach's latest comments on Cotto that can be found on "the scene".
