2 West Aussies, 2 Victorians & a New South Welshman to come. Anyone care to name the 5...ahead of the release tomorrow???
DeMori and Dawson pick themselves, and I'll take a stab at Heath Ellis as one of the Victorians you have in mind.
Lets just say I know a little more about the two WA names mentioned so far, as I tried to get across very early in the thread, you won't always get the full story off boxrec. I know for a fact both guys have had some great fights lined up that have fallen through at the last minute leaving them with lacklustre subs so they could stay on the card and not have wasted their training. If Kegsy ever showed up to a local fight card he'd could find all this out for himself.
There's more bull**** talked in boxing than any other sport and probably by a long way. With that in mind, is it more accurate to judge a fighter on the career he actually had, or on the ifs, buts, innuendo and bull**** that might have surrounded that career?
That'd be right if correct, but I've seen on a number of occasions other fighters booked for these opponents (with their names even making it onto the poster etc) before late withdrawals/injuries hampering their attempts. I find it a bit rich to continue having a go at CDL promotions who I've watched from their very first card put on some great shows and quite a few sell outs to be run down by someone who doesn't seen to own a GPS so they can find the venue, then pontificate on fights they havn't seen.
I'm going to wait and see what Kegsy actually writes before I endorse or critisize it. What do you disagree with so far?
While I agree there will always be times when an easier option is taken, with the difficulties in putting on promotions in Australia I won't pay any heed to such a list painted in such broad strokes. As I said from the very beginning, looking at a fighters record on boxrec does not always give the clearest indication of how things eventuated. I can't remember a card that has had the same fights listed a month out until fight night, it just never happens.
