Well as regards boxers going pro - I'd say the clue is in the name. Professionals get paid. Would you stay with your employer if another was paying a lot more for the same work? MGM are hoovering up Irish boxers. Most irish people would sell their mother for a fiver - so I doubt they are having much of a 'moral dilemma' Sugar. Besides Im still waiting for you - or anyone else - to come up with proof of wrongdoing by MGM.
I asked if there was a viable alternative. I assume there isn't then as you've not named any. Now on to MGM. If you want to justify these scumbags then you're no better than them Len. Don't try and take the moral high ground on these boards ever again. Where does MGM get its money from? You know full well where it does. The Kinahan family. And they get their money from... Drugs and all the deaths that come with them. Don't be an idiot Len. Trying to defend these guys just because they're Irish is ridiculous. They're parasites on your great nation.
Excited to see Paddy in the pros, unfortunately for him he's in one of the more interesting weight classes...and a weight class that MGM will be struggling to get him good fights in. Cracking amateur but...as a pro he's going to struggle
Well Im surprised he didnt go with Cyclone. Thats about the only 'big' outfit even associated with Ireland.
I'm also shocked that you think 'most Irish people would sell their mothers for a fiver' Len. That's never been the feeling I've got from spending time on the Emerald Isle.
Now you're contradicting yourself Sugar. On the one hand you bemoan the vile business you claim is done by the 'Great Satan' MGM - yet you cant see any harm in all the Irish people (and boxers after all are people too you know ) in the form of Irish boxers being prepared to do business with MGM. For your view to be consistent if you condemn one you MUST condemn the other.
I'm not following you here Len. I don't think I've said at any point that I can't see any harm in doing business with MGM. Quite the opposite in fact. The only thing I asked was if there was a viable alternative. I wanted to know if there was so I could make a better judgement on those who do sign with them. It's easier to understand why people would deal with them if they felt like there wasn't a choice. I don't approve of any fighter signing with MGM for aforementioned reasons. I wouldn't sign with them. I'd also add that I don't think the friends I have living in/from Ireland would 'sell their mothers for a fiver' as you suggested.
OK So you ARE condemning the Irish boxers who take the 'dirty dollar' and do business with MGM. The way things are going though, there may be no Irish boxers left that you feel able to support - cos at the rate they are hoovering up the talent ALL our boxers will be with them.
As I would have done in Barnes position. It does seem odd that Fast Car hasn't set up a Matchroom Ireland or something similar and put someone in charge of looking after talent there.
He was in 3 olympics right?, he needs to step up fast, that Irish fighter who beat Valdez and Alvarez in the olympics had done nothing yet.
Maybe you would sugar, maybe you would. Then maybe you would've lived to regret your decision. Look at Lomachenko? Remember him? Or Ireland's own Darren Sutherland. Going with a big us or uk promoter isn't always best. Many found this out the hard way. Maybe MGM have guaranteed Barnes he will be out early and often. That could have clinched it.
