Paddy Fitzpatrick should have his coaching licence revoked

I'm certainly not Groves biggest fan but some of the stuff in the Daily Mail article about Fitzpatrick was simply not acceptable.

Turning up to training in flip-flips and missing the final press conference were disgraceful.

Groves was totally right to bin him off.

Booth takes a large cut of his fighters purse I've heard and I think Groves leaving him was money orientated, or so I've been led to believe.

Paddy stepped him in Groves hour of need as you like and they almost pulled it off in the first Froch fight. I like Paddy and I met him that night in Manchester, he comes across as an alright bloke - but he was never right for Groves.

The problem was, Groves had that many people in the media etc saying him and Paddy wasn't a good fit, that it made him want to prove people wrong. That's a recipe for disaster and the wheels did end up coming off.

Fortunately he's now parted ways and hooked up with McGuigan. Shane is perfect for Groves in my opinion, the way he looks to get his fighters to box and his training methods will suit Groves down to a tee.

I thought he was impressive last night albeit against a limited opponent. He needs to kick on from this now and continue to build momentum.

 

least fitzpatrick bothered with groves when nobody else could be messed with him. all he said she said stuff, imo mcguigan won't take groves to a world title he will still come up short.

 

Paddy is a good man and a good coach. Not been to his gym recently but have been on and off since 2008. Never seen him drunk/hungover in the mornings or drinking during the day. Around the gym he promotes a relaxed chilled atmosphere. His Gym in Swindon was only opened in 2007ish and he is just now starting to see the fruits of his labour regarding his home grown fighters.

I would defiantly say he was professional, he treats people professionally and is very clear and articulate with advise. I can understand why some may not share that view. I am not sure about other things reported regarding missing appointments etc but I am sure there are two sides of every story.

I don't believe he was a good coach for Groves and media recently has painted him in a bad light but in my opinion that doesn't make him a bad coach and he is a perfect coach for others. I know a lot of people with a high opinion of him myself included.

 

Great post. I feel for Paddy. After the first Froch fight he was being praised as the next star coach in world boxing. I like Groves, but he ALWAYS shifts the blame onto someone or something else for his failures.

Well said, don't know either man but this is sour g****s and excuse making stuff. I mean if he was that bad get rid after one fight and moaning about flip flops - do me a favour.

Groves needs to grow up. He is not that good and that is the bottom line

 

Groves has turned into a right Richard in my opinion, I find him very irritating these days, it all went to his head after Froch I.

No matter what Groves does from now that Froch right hand will be the shining memory of his career, after all the boasts and arrogance all that was left was Groves in a crumpled heap.

 

If Fitzpatrick was so bad why did Groves stay with him for 5 fights (3 world title fights)?
Did Frampton have good preparation for his last fight?

 

Well then it's groves fault isn't it if his ego made him stay with paddy. Groves has become a whiny, bitter guy. Comes across as always feeling he's been hard done by, needs to stop blaming everyone else and maybe accept that he's not going to be the ATG he believed he'd be.

 

as soon as groves decided to keep paddy i had a feeling it wasn't going to go well. i don't think its either of their faults but imo paddy just hasn't done his apprenticeship to train boxers at world level yet. i know some coaches can jump straight in but more often than not it takes time to get ready for the top level.
