spot on . I think we all had JJ as the winner going into the fight. Pressure fighters like Takam, Ruiz had Parker in all sorts, as did Chisora. He seemed to implement a good game-plan for the second Chisora fight, so he's certainly listening But he always was listening, hell he'd keep one eye on Barry during his fights. My problem is possibly his concentration. When he's backing up and switching off I'd like to see him try a duck and weave , but that requires a great deal of concentration and sporting IQ. I;'m not sure he has that. When you back up and get smashed in thew face I get the impression he's out of ideas, and he's kind of switching off waiting for it to end before he goes back into jab, right cross mode. JJ requires you to have a tremendous amount of concentration and boxing know how to mitigate what hes doing and land on him without being engulfed. Parker has kind of changed not so much improved. I think people are getting giddy about Chisora 2 when it feels like an abberation-like performance.
Let's not forget. Parker looked less than stellar vs guys like Bergman, Cojanu (what a farce that was). Guys he should be steamrolinng over. He was kind of lowering to their level, but that maybe reflects a serious psychological issue or approach to boxing. Who makes Cojanu feel comfortable in the ring so he's laughing and playing up? FTR Joe Joyce is a tough fight for anyone and I think he vs AJ is a true 50/50, especially after AJ's Usyk. I think he gives Fury problems too but ultimately Fury's intelligence gets him the D. Usyk beats him in a tough fight. JJ beats Wilder.
I think every strategy would have ended with the same outcome, Parker would have gassed out quicker using other strategies, he conserved energy whenever he could, he only threw occasional power shots and didnt really put much behind his jab And he still succumbed to Joyce's pressure after 5-6 rounds
I agree even a lighter more mobile would of still lost, he has too many holes in his game for him to beat someone as good as Joyce. I'm not sure he would of gassed quicker though. Prior to coming in heavy in his last 2 fights I've never seen him gas so early before and could have sustained a higher work rate which no doubt Joyce would have forced him too adopt. A more mobile Parker could have stayed off the ropes more where Joyce would work him over or lean on him in the clinch to sap his strength. He's never really put much behind his jab, it's always been a flaw of his and he was never going to win a battle of jabs against Joyce's jab even if he did commit to it.
X Ah, sorry dude. I thought you meant the gameplan itself, not the weight. I agree, with 10-15 pounds off, he'd be able to stick and move a lot more, and it would probably delay his gassing out by a few rounds. I still believe Joyce would have won, possibly by KO even as with less weight his chin would be slightly less durable
Whats wrong with you and your Parker hate, op? "Paint dry Parker"? Whats that supposed to mean anyways?
I already made a thread admitting I was wrong about Joyce. Doesn't mean Parker still isn't a good boxer, he showed a lot of heart and toughness today. I'm looking forward to their next fights and where they go from here.
Parker may not be top of the tree but he is a Warrior and gives everybody a fight nobody can take that away from him,as well as the fact his team got it wrong against Joyce by bulking him up when it’s iq,skill and movement needed against Joyce .
