http://bjpenn.com/mmanews/2012/05/2...o-anything-i-was-too-sick-ufc-news-27171.html Rousimar Toquinho Palhares in an interview with TATAME. Palhares discusses the Belcher fight and reveals he was ill going into the bout. I could not do anything, I was too sick. I dont really wanna talk about it so it doesnt sound like an excuse and Im not taking back his credits. Palhares however wont let the loss get to him and plans to use it as motivation for future. Thats only going to strengthen me and Ill become a champion. In the fight Palhares insisted on going for a heel-hook and was not able to finish and was knocked out soon after. He explains why he was unable to finish the move. When you get it (the position), you gotta really get it. I tried to repeat it, but I was gassing off, I was not strong enough. It was not my day, literally. I was dead, I could not move Palhares comments on having learned from his mistake of competing when less than 100% and says he will never do it again. My plan now is to train and never step up on the ring like I did this time. I was trying to jump and scream to see if I had any energy left, but I couldnt do it.
This content is protected But then again maybe I can understand whining when you get your ass handed to you like that. In the end you're still a baby.
If there is a rematch, ill be betting on Belcher again. Palhares may well have not been 100% but I dont think the outcome would have been much different if he was.
I can see what he is saying though. Palhares had him a few times in the heel hook and couldn't finish it. Belcher was defending it really well but usually if Palhares gets it even for a few seconds he takes it off. Becoming a bit of a habit though when he loses first nate was greasing now he is claiming sickness..... Can't take anything away from Belcher though his BJJ was very good makes you wonder why he doesn't use it more often.
Belcher countered with some nice jiujitsu - very 10th Planet jiujitsu in fact. That victory was no fluke. Belcher takes him in a rematch too.
To be fair, he retracted the greasing claim pretty quickly and apologised I agree with you on the first part though. After he couldnt get the hook on Belcher, he just seemed to collapse and barely even defended the GnP. We all laughed at him for his pathetic no effort in defending the GnP - but it makes sense that he had no energy, it sure looked that way
Fantastic win for Belcher, and great learning experience for our favourite semi-****** 1. He wont go into a fight again if hes not well 2. He'll put the hours in defending GnP 3. Hes now accustomed to getting smashed in the face, he's felt it full force, and hes wanting to come back more than eva
Meh, maybe it's true, maybe it'd gone differently if he'd belt better, maybe not. This is the problem with guys fighting hurt is they've lost and you don't know if they're really the lesser fighter or not. I strongly suspect that Miller beats Dolloway if his knee isn't injured, but now we'll never know. It's going to take Palhares two or three fights (probably a year or more of hard work) to get back to where he was. Sucks for him.
Yeah, you're probably right about that time frame. The only thing that would speed it up would be getting called in as a last minute replacement, and going on to win a significant fight. He may need to win at least one fight before becoming eligible as a replacement. If I were a fighter, on an adviser for a fighter, on the UFC's roster I would think it is very important to stay in condition year round. Injuries are constantly causing fight cards to change.
Yeah, look what happened to Charlie Brenneman. Steps in late and beats Story when he was looking really close to a title shot and when from "who the **** is that" to fighting a top contender near the top of a title fight card.
Must be tough for a fighter who's genuinely not right going into a fight No matter how little they make of it, theyre still gonna cop **** for mentioning it
