Cuevas, I think. Palomino was a rugged ******* too and the more skilled, fluid fighter, but if he does beat Cuevas it would most likely mean having to go the distance, and he wouldn't be able to avoid the WBA champ's attack for that long without getting clocked.
If palomino can survive the first five rounds, i think he would win a decision, he had more skill and hand speed.
Cuevas for sure. Carlos had skills, but it's only a matter of time before Cuevas' bombs got the better of him.

Cuevas was better quality than Palomino. Palomino was good ,but not the legendary puncher and champion which Cuevas was.
I used to side with the beer spokesman without to much hesitation. Lesser fighters have gone deep into fights with Cuevas and given him a hard time...Palomino would be probably the best mix of skill and toughness Pipino had faced. But to tell you the truth it is very much a pick em and today Ill side with Cuevas. The beer spokesman is quite hittable and lacks mobility...The human body just wasnt designed to take Pipino Cuevas artillery, the long list of injuries sustained by his opponents is evidence of this. Palomino had a very, very good chin...but I've been digging a little deeper it his record lately appears he was dropped and hurt more times than I thought. If they had a series, starting with 10 rounder non-title fights and culminating in a 15 round title fight..they are both getting wins. I think Carlos would probably take out the final bout but he would have been stopped or given a touch up in at least one of the previous fights.
Tough call ... but I agree that Cuevas should have a slight edge just because his superior artillery would eventually tear Palomino down In any case, that would be a fight for the ages!
Salsanchezfan I have to know, where have you been since Jan 2009? I had been asking about you and your mysterious dissapearance BTW, I like king Cuevas in brutal bone breaking fashion
Whussay, Roosterman? Still paying homage to Leonard on a daily basis? Eh, things get stale anywhere if you hang around long enough. My interest in boxing comes and goes anyway, and decided to pursue other things. ............or........... I did time for cutting a guy after a poker game gone terribly awry. You decide. :blood
Palomino did better against top class opponents Benitez and Duran, with respectable efforts in both fights, than Cuevas who was totally outclassed by Hearns and Duran. Cuevas however fought the better class contenders of the two during their respective title reigns and disposed most of them in devastating fashion. I think it would have been a brutal and great fight that boxing unfortunately missed out on. Palomino was the better boxer but Cuevas's power would keep him in the fight for 15 rounds. I myself would give Palomino the slight edge by breaking down Cuevas with better quality punching.
that would explain the sudden dissapearance. I had been asking about you, nobody seemed to know. I would even think about it after I left the board, sometimes-in parking lots, in traffic. It was very strange :huh and yes I still like Leonard matchups, especially the ones where he loses
