Benitez was great but I prefer Ernesto Marcel, a win over (a prime) Arguello is pretty good... (was he not prime ? Elaborate)

I’m comparing Benitez head to head with Roberto Duran, whom he beat with relative ease.

Why ? Nobody would rank Benitez above Duran. Nor he was better than Duran... your point goes nowhere.

They’re both Hispanic though, aren’t they? In the same vein Americans & Englishmen aren’t a different race.

That’s what I thought. That these countries are majority composed of the same ethnicity.

No such a thing as "latino or hispanic ethnicity".

But they are the same ethnic stock, yes? Spanish? Racism between them seems odd. Certainly I understand you have indigenous & mixed indigenous peoples there but those are very much not representative of the make-up.

Are they going to hurl the same Latino stereotypes at one another? LOL.

Yes, they are representative of the makeup. Just from Wikipedia, 65% of Panamanians are of mixed indigenous and European ancestry, and 12.3% are fully indigenous. In most of the New World countries that were colonized by Spain, people of full European ancestry are the minority.

I don’t want to derail the thread so we’ll leave it at that, but I suspect the numbers wouldn’t tell the whole story.

In any case, fine history both of them. I favour Puerto Rico.

Puerto Rico and it's pretty clear, after the top 5 in Panama you have a severe dip in quality.

Weight drained? :eyebrow2: the fight took place at 154 but that was a supremely fit and focused Duran, he just had nothing for Benitez, Montreal Duran would of got that same work after rubbing his crotch to Benitez like that.

To be fair, 2 of Durans biggest losses in his prime were to Puerto Rican boxers.

Panama Al Brown, Roberto Duran, Carlos de León and Angel Manfredy are not from the same ethnicity. There is a known history of african slavery and racism in latin america as well as a massive european (from south europe) immigration (in some places less, in other places more)...
