We’re all or most of us are quite familiar with impact such non-fights as Lewis-Bowe and Jones-Michalczewski have for we still talk about what could have been with them to this very day. But what about Papp-Giardello...how significant is this missing piece of middleweight history and who would have won, how, and why?

It would depend on whether Giardello was in shape imo a fit focused Giardello was a level above Papp, imo.

Interesting. Do you believe Papp-Giardello is nowhere near as big of a missing page in boxing history as Bowe-Lewis/Jones-
Michalczewski or is it up there?

@William Walker Sorry to ask smth again but I just figured I would since it's the same topic; do you feel Papp-Giardello is not as important of a missing page in boxing history as the missing pages of Bowe-Lewis & Jones-Michalczewski? For me, Papp-Giardello is up there among the biggest disappointments (non-fights). Just curious how you perceive it?

It's no bother. Ask me all the questions you want any time. I have not watched much Papp in a long time, but naturally I would favor Giardello. But I think Papp could make it very close. SD either way. I give Giardello a 60/40 chance to win.

I appreciate that, likewise with me too!! For me, Papp is the best known Hungarian boxer. Who in your opinion is the most famous (not necessarily the greatest, but most famous) Hungarian boxer of all time? I think his three Olympic Golds make him fairly well known around the world. Then again Zsolt Erdei held a pro championship. But who do you say is Hungary's most famous pugilist ever?

I have not read up on boxers from Hungary, but Papp is the only one I know of who is Hungarian, and I think that proves he was the best!

All I can really add is that late this past winter, my wife and I had the idea of starting a blog that was going to be us preparing, eating, and blogging about the national dishes of every country in the world. All 195 of them.

We made it five countries in before the pandemic struck and kind of took the air out of it and we let the idea get away at least for now, but one of the recipes was a supposedly authentic Hungarian goulash. It was sensational. Really, really good, the best of the five we did.

The worst was the Afghani thing. Don't even remember what it was other than it had rice and almonds in it. It was terrible.

That is the extent of my knowledge of Laszlo Papp.

And from what I've read of Papp, it's hard to say how good he was. We do know how stylish and incredibly tough Giardello was, so no idea how one picks against him here.

On the other hand Papp didn’t have wins against fighters of the calibre of Dick Tiger and Rubin Carter.

You couldn't be more wrong about the Carter fight being a robbery. That was some Hollywood Bull**** from the movie. Giardello beat him cleanly. Watch the fight on youtube.
