Look, this is not a hate Audley/Hate Matthysse thread. I'm going to be as objective as possible, and of course as respectful to each man as possible. I've been thinking about their respective careers and comparing and contrasting these two boxers and I've discovered many parallels/similarities between them in their careers. Once upon a time in their careers, they've been raved about by many people in the boxing public as a destroyer, future H.O.F'er, great. And they've been through some decent opposition, Matthysse has the better names ofc but with all due respect, I never once thought that they would ever get to the summit of the sport. They're good, they possess some pretty good power but they lack the championship heart even from the getgo when I first watched them as they were advancing in their careers. A warrior's spirit, a boxer's backbone. Now I'm going at this as respectfully as possible. I don't box professionally but there are some who will just go through shots and fight to the death and there are others, like the two I stated above that will not. Once again, not being disrespectful. A boxers' true colours always shows in the face of danger, it almost always does. You can talk as much as you want pre-fight but once you get in there, you usually become who you are. Once they fought for world titles, they of course, fell short of being a world champion. I don't think this is a surprise to those who actually keep up with the sport of boxing. Well, Audley won the WBF against Hersisia, so he gets some credit for that even though the WBF is seen as obsolete and not a major title. This content is protected ?
I don't think I was, I was being honest. I was being respectful. They really are quite alike haha. :deal
There's parallels between your BF Wilder and Fraudley that's much is certain. Both are glass jawed con men :yep
There are parallels, but because the goal in boxing for any fighter with aspiration is so straight forward (beat your opponents and reach the top of the game) you have to look at the context to see the differences. Both were quite highly lauded at one point in their respective careers, but, Audley's was early on due to his amateur success, were as Lucas' was later on in his pro career after he had some success in America. Whilst both ended up with the same result (being highly hyped, but ultimately failing), in the context of the sport of boxing, these two paths are about as different as you can get. As for future HOF/great - just because the odd unobjective person on an internet forum might say something, it does not mean that it is the consensus of the boxing public or that that persons opinion should even be given any respect. Most unbiased and level headed people said that Audley had the potential to be a world champion. No one with any sense and with a decent knowledge of the pro game and the hardships that go with it would ever claim with any degree of certainty that a novice pro would or could become a future HOF'er. Only once a fighter has had all of their attributes tested can you realistically make such a prediction. As for Lucas, knowledgeable people said that he was a destroyer and that he could give any fighter a good fight, but, not many claimed that he would become a great. He was generally seen as a good fighter who could possibly unify the 140lb division, but, not much else was expected. As for championship heart, Audley sorely lacked this, but, after this weekends fight, Lucas is being judged to harshly and there has been a lot of revisionist history. Lucas has shown plenty of heart before in his previous fights, win or lose. When he has lost in the past it has been down more to tactical and technical flaws rather than a lack of heart.
The sad thing is this thread isn't even about denigrating Lucas. This isn't a hate thread. It's trying to make out Audley was better/more successful than he was. Why would MVC want to do that? I hear you cry. Well the answer is simple. Harrison fought his latest mancrush Deontay Wilder and as such needs to be elevated in status to try and give a semblance of credibility to his can crushing resume.
