I don't mind this fight. The opponent is credible. Since signing on with Arum they still haven't fought in the states yet, which I think arum is eager for. All Joe's fights at this level are almost 50/50 fights. He maybe not be the best belt holder in history, but he certainly makes up for it by taking on these tough fights. Good on him, keep going. Forget that fight in Japan nonsense.
Would prefer Jennings fight at least someone else this time a better opponent before he gets his shot.
They tried fujimoto a couple of years ago and he wasn't keen on getting knocked out. I think fujimoto is a knee jerk reaction to his poor showing vs fury. Hopefully the give it a bit more time and make a different decision.
Dillon Whyte. 6 Million. Stadium fight. You win big exposure and more money for the AJ fight. You lose Eddie gets Whyte AJ part 2. Take it or leave it.
Jennings could pull the upset... If his form even remotely resembles what it did 2-3 years ago. Might lay some dough on him if the odds are juicy enough. Huge risk for Parker, I'll be surprised if it happens.
If he wanted to cash out that would be the way. I like the Whyte fight, but take or leave it is probably a bit premature. I think the Parker camp think he has room to grow and the aj fight will always be there if he has the belt.
Fujimoto should be allowed to use his full kickboxing arsenal, that's how one sided this one is... Parker would still win. Where as someone like Ustinov being allowed to use his full arsenal would spell a nightmare for almost anyone in the division... Actually, looked like his kickboxing muscle memory came back and he thai-plumed Airich and made the motion to lift his knee off the ground before stopping himself...
You know what I would rather see, actually? Let the medium fish eat the small fish before going against the big fish, nahmsaying? First send Jennings over to Japan, beat Kyotaro at home with a big live gate in Tokyo, build up his profile and make a Parker challenge more enticing with Jennings coming off a decent (or what could be sold to casuals as decent) win.
Yeah I'd be all for that.. part of me wants to see another HW world title fight in Japan though, although Fujimoto himself is nowhere near worthy.
Yeah but in that couple of years Fujimoto's prospects of getting a big payday haven't improved. Trying to become the first Japanese heavyweight champ at home would guarantee a big sellout crowd, so at least he would have that going for him before Parker destroyed him.
Should check out his fight with Willie Naso from earlier in the year. Apart from AJ/Klitschko that's definitely up there for most exciting HW fight of the year, contends with Breazeale/Ugonoh (am I missing anything else?)
It would have been good if izu was still on the undercards. Since signing with Al haymond he had absolute barn burner with breazeale, then nothing. If he was on on the card against good opposition, who wouldn't want to see that!
