Joseph Parker's Promoter May Pursue Wilder For Unification Fight

Joseph Parker promoter could pursue a unification with WBC champion Deontay Wilder in the immediate future.

Wilder plans to return in the first quarter of 2017 and wants a big fight in order to return in style.

Parker was required to make a mandatory defense against David Haye within 120 days, but Haye has already signed on to fight Tony Bellew.

With Haye already committed to another fight, Parker could be ordered to fight Hughie Fury - but his promoter prefers the unification with Wilder, and a unification would certainly trump a mandatory defense.

"If we are required to fight Hughie Fury, then that simplifies things a bit," Duco Events' director David Higgins told Sky Sports.

"We are clarifying that at the moment. If the opponent is required to be Hughie Fury then we'll assess the pros and cons of holding it in England versus holding it in New Zealand, and we wouldn't rule out either.

"We would consider all options. The other thing is to reach out to Al Haymon's people about Deontay Wilder, potentially seeking to unify all of the belts.

Wilder should be ready for this. Time to start taking scalps at Heavyweight. Wilder better man up and start blasting out these other champs. Most people (even black folks) don't even know that there is a Black champion at HW that's how unknown he is. When has that happened in American boxing history? Nobody knows him, doesn't that bother him?

    Unification trumps mandatories.

Regardless, Parker should take the Fury fight. He needs to stay at the level he's fighting at (Takam, Ruiz) until he improves more. Otherwise he's going to get embarrassed.

I'd love to see Wilder and Parker step up and unify the division. And both guys are Warriors, and are set on being the best so I know these guys would make the fight happen. But a rematch with Ruiz for Parker, and Povetkin for Wilder are in order first.

Wilder is more than ready for Parker. This is boxing politics, and Parker's team knows they are going to at least get one defense in. If they are savvy enough to pretend they'd fight the best right away, then they'd be conscious about not being a champion in history with no successful defenses like Charles Martin. People really should wait until fights are signed before getting their hopes up.

It's up to Wilder now as he's been somewhat called out. Wilder vs Parker would generate more money than Parker vs Fury. Ruiz vs Parker rematch won't be likely anytime soon, people have just seen that. Now Wilder vs Parker...Parker just keeps chasing the big names. None of this Molina crap.

Well they've made it known they want to unify the belts. Wilder is NOT chasing Parker, it's clearly the other way around.

I got my hopes up cos I know Wilder ain't no ducker. Or is he? We'll see...

I think Wilder wins too, but Parker has some chance against him as Wilder always seems to get hit even by the smaller HWs he faces.

I think the game plan and styles between Parker and Ruiz may make people underestimate how much of a fight Parker could bring to Wilder. Pretty ballsy and Wilder definitely a favourite, but this could also be the kind of fight where Parkers stock raises win or lose.

Yep, Wilder definitely would have something to prove here as well. Parker would be his best opponent, and both Molina and Szplika gave him tough fights. Parker is better than those two in most departments.

Interesting fight but I don't think Wilder would take it. While I favour Wilder if he boxes and moves to win a decision he's obviously risk adverse and this is a risky fight. Parker may have looked vulnerable in his last 2 fights but he's still better than anyone Wilder has fought so far including an ill Stiverne and we've seen Wilder struggle with worse fighters.

I doubt the money would be great either, neither men are a big draw and unification fights this risky usually means both fighters wanting to be paid well and currently I don't think the figures stack up for this to be viable just yet.
