Parker was listed as a client on the website of that TRT doctor that Conor Benn used lol, Dr. Usman. Website got taken down, Fury was on there too.
Yeah, he's around Whyte/Chisora level. Like them, he can be competitive with a lot of fighters and will be capable of upsets. Part of his hype is AJ fans. But of course Parker wasn't a real champ, he got the belt donation from Fury and beat Ruiz for it in a close fight. People forget he was taking terrible opponents for a long time before Joyce. I don't hate Lee but honestly he gave some bad advice to Fury in the first Usyk fight. Us keyboardists probably don't know how to corner people in 'big time boxing' but I feel like telling Fury he only needed to win another round going into round 11 was misleading and then saying he just needed the 12th after that was not true. By the 12th he needed a KD and really needed that anyway.
I could admit someone saying that he's a hypejob. Well, everybody has its own definition of hypejob. But saying that parker hasn't improved is dumb.
By improved I mean had he turned into a different calibre of fighter? Literal improvements over time due to working on craft is normal but he’s still in the same tier as he always was.
But you used the word improved in the thread title. So which one is it? Also, Parker was the underdog in his last two fights - you don´t get to simply write that off. People clearly underestimated him, and he proved to be better than most thought.
Didn’t my original post explain my angle? Don’t just look at the title you click on to enter the thread.
I did. You contradicted yourself, even if slightly so. IMO Parker has improved since the Joyce loss. For years I and a few others noted and debated over Parker´s clear decline. He was regressing as a boxer. But since 2023 he has shown new vigor. The clearest improvement is his consistency throughout the fights. Parker used to loose concentration in all of his fights, especially the later rounds. But now he is boxing methodically, and sticking to a clear gameplan for the entirety of the bout. Looking at these two fights, I clearly see an improved boxer. Nothing drastic, but improvements none the less. More head movement, more feints, responsible defense, setting up offense. Parker is showing his experience. This content is protected This content is protected
I don't think Andy Lee is pursuing it on purpose, I think Joseph Parker just likes to acknowledge his team, he definitely shouts out his coach and S&C coach more than any other fighter I know. And more importantly he gives a good interview and the way he speaks about boxing is accessible to the layman, meaning he is sought out by pundits who want his opinion on things.
Interesting that, I think he can over do it at times instead of keeping it simple. Kind of like Malik Scott. they are like snake oil salesman, what a normal coach can say in 2words they over complicate and flower it up to make themselves sound clever. I understand broadcasters loving this but I didn’t know people believed the overly complicated and detailed explanations
Andy Lee explains the whole fightplan. THIS is what a great trainer sounds like- This content is protected
Former world champ. Has been in the pro ranks for 12 years, spent most of that time in the Top 10 rankings. Has 38 pro fights, which is vast experience in this era. Has fought Takam, Dmitrenko, Ruiz, Chisora x2, Joyce, Whyte, Joshua, Hughie Fury, Wilder, Zhang and soon Dubois. Healthy mix of elite level fighters and danger men in that itinerary, and every heavy hitter of this generation. His 3 losses were all against fighters in their prime. Obviously a big caveat there with his Whyte loss in his PED pomp. It's an impressive resume given Parker is no power puncher himself and has rebuilt his career essentially twice. If it is not the best resume in terms of fighters fought in the HW Division right now, its certainly the most unique. Probably good to add he only just turned 33. No hype train there
