Two clearly low blows set up the first clean right hand. How do you make such a thing right ? Disqualification for Parker is a bit harsh, he would have won eventually But there is no doubt the low blows started it all off In the UFC, if an eye poke or an illegal knee leads to a fighter not being able to continue, the offending fighter gets disqualified
It seems to be a reoccurring theme with Parker unfortunately. He hit Dimitrenko while he was down that clearly effected the rest of the match. I also don't think UFC is much better in the regard. Jon Jones made a career off of eye pokes.
There does need to be some sort of sanction for these low blows which seem pretty frequent from many fighters. Also hitting when down (not in this fight) seems to have become accepted. I think DQ needs to be used more.
I love how fouls are just an accepted part of the game and everyone gets a few before they receive their first warning. Then if you do it a few more times we might take a point. The rules have no teeth and encourage cheating. Start a no tolerance policy and watch how quickly accidents stop happening.
I read somewhere Parker had vowed to fighter dirtier after being roughhoused out of his bout with Whyte. Seemingly he was out to prove he was a man of his word against Flores. It all seemed predetermined to me. He's even grown intimidating facial hair....
Firstly, I am in NO way condoning what Parker did - it pained me to see him doing it, and not being deducted a point... though I see how he's got to that stage. If refs were as heavy handed as you are suggesting, Parker would have won the Whyte fight and we'd not be in this situation.
This. Refs seem too afraid to DQ guys. I think an automatic disqualification is fair for any fighter that hits a downed opponent and that after a first warning about low blows a point should be taken away.
Parker is a dirty fighter while being superior in the ring, he should have fought like that vs Whyte and Joshua.
Its gone now. they could file a complaint, demand a rematch its not like they are lacking video evidence. But it wont get them anywhere and to be fair it was always guna end bad and end soon for Flores. But those blows were low and Flores reacted by lifting his head to make a point which got him knocked down and brought on the ending. There is no doubt about it.
What do you mean by "heavy handed"? This has nothing to do with Whyte. My point is that the ref missed clear low blows that effectively ended the fight. Flores should have been given 5 minutes to recover. I am calling for a NC because the ref ****ed up that night and Flores ended up with a KO loss on his record. -Did Parker intentionally foul him? -Could Flores have even recovered in 5 minutes? -Should a point have been taken from Parker or even a DQ? Those 3 are pointless questions at the moment. Fact is that Flores got fouled and KO'd because of it. The ref missed the low blows and the official KO verdict should be overruled to a NC.
MMA is trying to push for an automatic point deduction in case of eye pokes, intentional or not. Same should be for in boxing for hitting downed opponents. 5 minute break and a point deduction. Not sure a DQ is always in order, but should be on the table.
