I truly think STAMINA is the issue. When he gets drained by the opponent or goes hard for a few rounds - suddenly he looks spent for the whole mid part of a fight. We have seen this often. Round 12 he would have taken Whyte OUT - but he was too fatigued to even land one more punch.
ROFLMAO!! What happened was obvious It was the head butt to the back of Parkers head that caused it. How did that clown Lewis call that a knockdown??? Lewis gave Whyte carte blanche to cheat any way he liked. Joe is too nice a guy to have returned the favor & get down & dirty too He needs to get a little killer instinct. Freddie could show him how
Agreed with all of that, though Barry AND Parker both said they knew that was coming and prepared for it - the ref SHOULD have deducted a point (or more) for Whytes shenanigans but boxers have been dealing with this kind of thing forever and Barry had obviously done his part. What difference is Freddie going to make if they cover it all then Parker goes in and reverts to things we've seen him do 3 years ago when the opponent doesn't behave exactly as his sparring partners did?
Joe needs the Killer Instinct instilled in him he's just too nice a guy I think Freddie could make of break him No need to leave Kevin Barry they could work together
I have been saying Parker has stamina issues for the longest, and these faults tend to be seen only in losses apparently. Parker just isn't a devastating puncher enough to get the job done with a low workrate. He has to work to bang them out and he showed earlier he isn't capable of even banging out Ruiz Jr., it's just not in him. Not sure if a trainer can fix this. He isn't too nice, that's just sky sports propaganda and their horrific commentating. He was trying to take Whyte's head off and win the fight, it just required too much energy, also seemed vulnerable to body shots that made him gas quicker.
At the start he did look good, he was doing what he had to do which was be aggressive and get off first and then getting away. But as you say something happened which he didn't like. Cynics will say the head butt, but in reality it's was Whyte's counter punching that caused Parker's switch in tactics. Parker is very predictable and eventually Whyte like Takam and Ruiz Jr could start timing Parker's attacks and countering them. Look at the first round, Whyte is being made to miss most of the time, when he counters. Such as that wild left hook he threw that spun Whyte around. But with each round Whyte's counters are more often finding their mark and as that happens Parker is forced to be more and more defensive. When this happens Parker has 2 choices go to war, take a shot to land a shot and probably get stopped or switch and move onto the back foot which is what he always does when he's being countered. He looks lost in their because whenever he throws he get his back and he's then hesitant to throw and not sure what to do because the game plan he has been given isn't working and he hasn't been given the tools or knowledge to change things up. It's very hard for Parker to stick to the plan when the plan is basically get of first to land, then walk into counters because while getting off first and moving works for a while eventually his opponents learn the more they push him back the less punches will come their way so eventually they all try and walk him down if they can do so. Barry's plan is flawed because he's never devised a way for Parker to discourage guys from walking him down. Counter punching is the big thing missing from Parker's tool kit. With it guys would be less willing to just walk him down for fear of being countered. It would also make Parker's attacks less predictable and instead of just getting in range and getting off first, he could feint, draw leads, then counter with greater power as his opponent walks into his shots. That again would make guys less likely to counter him back because they fear being countered themselves.
He looks to me like he's happy just competing not winning...Its the takin part that counts attitude lol
All this stuff about Parker being ‘too nice’ is BS cos it doesn’t explain how he actually lost. Whyte wasn’t given rounds for fouling, he was given rounds because he was landing shots. Unfortunately for Parker fans like me, he was actually outboxing Parker. The issues are Parker’s workrate and defence, not his ‘niceness’. The issues appear to be a combination of poor stamina restricting his workrate, some poor defensive habits when his workrate slows, and a lack of counterpunching ability. When he gets tired he wears a lot of shots and struggles to skilfully counter, that’s not a personality issue.
Well if there ever was a time to make a change it should be now. His last three fights have been in the UK and many of his likely future opponents are based here too. So relocating to Britain makes sense, and doing so would help to make the break from Barry easier as it would provide a reason beyond a simple parting of the ways. Barry still talks about Parker like he's some young kid in the amateurs, he's way too paternal and the downside of this is Parker has not learned to think and act for himself. This shows under pressure in the heat of battle. Parker's Kiwi character would fit well in the down-to-earth north of England and Ingle would provide the no-nonsense discipline I think he needs to find the next level. That would be my call, Brendan Ingle... EDIT: Not Brendan, God rest his soul. I mean Dominic Ingle, of course...
