Good fight as mentioned before. Jennings is a tough matchup for Parker i think. Jennings doesn't like heavy handed opponents but he can move and he has a good defense and Parker isn't that heavy handed at all i think. This could be a very good fight, i'll go with a decision here, probably for Parker who is faster, sharper and should be also fight completly different compared to his "ran away from AJ"-style cause Jennings lacking power so he should not have any fear about getting caught with something big.
Thanks Chuck. This is fantastic news. These names that Parker gets are worth paying money for so no complaints here.
Winnable fight for Jennings. Parker may never reach his ceiling with his current team, but his level of opposition has to be respected
Good choice. After suffering his 1st loss and losing his world title i was a bit worried he would take a couple of fights against local fighters on home soil and end up becoming a little less relevent. Ive seen it happen before. I felt the best bet would be for him to fight again in the UK or the US and he has done it. Also as an opponant Jennings is in the middle ground, Parker could of picked tougher but he could of picked an easier fight. Its a good solid name that hopefully he can do well against and he remains in the mix and can start looking to try get a belt back.
That's possible. Jennings reputation is solely based on a losing effort vs Wlad and it's always risky to rate a fighter based on looking good when losing. Fighters like Takam and Chisora made a career based off looking good losing when stepping up. Jennings might very well be more gatekeeper than contender. His only other notable names on his record are Perez who he won a SD against and Liakhovich who he KO'ed in 9. But when you see Povetkin KO'ed Perez in 1 and Wilder KO'ed Liakhovich in 1, you wonder if those 2 wins really look all that good. If Parker does walk through Jennings like Ortiz did it would put into question how good Ortiz is. Ortiz has done nothing but KO Jennings and look good losing vs Wilder and as I said before it's risky to rate fighters on doing well when losing.
Won't be Parker's last headline act on ESPN if he wins. I guess he had two options in the path he could take after Joshua - an American campaign against live opposition for decent money headlining on US TV. Or rebuild slowly and carefully at home. I would have taken the second option although I think that's still in play if the first option doesn't work out. The first option wouldn't be in play irrespective of how the second option played out had he taken it so perhaps they've made the right decision after all. It's not like he's got an "0" to protect. Good news if you're a fan of the heavyweight division or Parker. You get to see him in high profile, meaningful fights on the world stage. I'd expect an Andy Ruiz rematch if he gets past Jennings.
Very good matchup. The winner should fight Deontay Wilder. (Hell, if it's close, they both should.) If Joshua won't fight, Wilder should just start notching the defenses. He should get to 50-0 in three years.
Just heard on the TV news that Parkers camp is negotiations with the Jennings camp but nothing is confirmed. Duco keep mentioning Ustinov and thats disappointing. I'd much prefer Jennings on the 18th of August.
I don't see the point of an Andy Ruiz rematch. Ruiz has been inactive for the most part only just returning 3 months ago and was at his heaviest weight in over 3 years. Parker has improved since the first fight while Ruiz has likely only gotten worse with his weight gain and inactivity. What does beating Ruiz again prove? How does it benefit Parker beating him again when Ruiz's stock is no better than before. Ruiz isn't ranked in the top 10 by any of the sanctioning bodies a win over him wouldn't position Parker closer to another title shot.
I think Ruiz is the kind of opponent ESPN would be happy featuring in a headline act with Parker. There just aren't that many top American heavyweights out there. The bigger name American heavies are with HBO & Showtime. If Parker kicks off an American campaign with Top Rank on ESPN, who else are they going to match him with? They will want American opponents to cater for the American audience. The guys at the front of the queue for a fight with Parker will be Top Rank contracted fighters. That means Jennings & Ruiz. I also think that if Parker elects to campaign in America, rematching Ruiz is the honourable thing to do. Ruiz got off his backside & travelled half-way around the world to face Parker in his backyard (something Hughie Fury wouldn't do). While I had Parker winning, it was very close. Close enough to make a rematch a worthwhile proposition. As for sanctioning body rankings, win fights & the rankings will take care of themselves. In any event, the announcement of the fight with Jennings may be premature. Duco & Top Rank could go splitsville after Horn v Crawford.
