No such thing as arm power, weights don`t make you punch hard, punch power is all about technique and body mechanics.
So you say. But I prefer to go with an actual S&C expert like George Lockhart who has trained actual champions
I think this topic is just a matter of different philosophical beliefs on boxing. There is the traditional and status quo belief that punch power is something your born with and is only with chosen people, you can’t make a puncher if he is not a puncher. (Cus, roach, Teddy, hunter, Garcia, Dundee etc) Now there is a new age of philosophy, who believe adding weight and technique can turn anyone into a ko artist. Just nobody knows how to punch. I’m guessing these are people in support of foam sticks etc. (Ben Davidson, Malik scott partially, George Lockhart-not a boxing coach) the only issue with the new age guys is none have created and moulded a high level fighter…they take a high level fighter and get involved after the traditional guys have done their work.
Which ko artists has he trained? I know Malik Scott got a ko artist, made him do weights and foam sticks etc and now he can’t ko anyone.
I think you guys might have slightly different definitions of things like "power" "punchers" "heavy handed" etc and are getting caught up in the semantics. Of course someone can't be trained to be a Wilder, that is natural and can't be made in the gym. But also adding weight to a punch will make it land harder, that is just straight math that can't be argued with.
A lot boxers become champs despite their trainers, most boxing trainers are overrated, Cus D`Amato was a genius though.
My intuition is that he should come in as light as possible to try and keep up with Usyk. But I'm not sure if that is possible. I think the more important thing is for him to be at a weight where he is feeling great and is confident. No point in slimming down if he feels weak and drained in camp for example. Realistically he not going to keep up with Usyk regardless, so instead should work on other aspects of his game like his mental and psychological fitness so he doesn't get mentally exhausted by Usyk's style. If he can do that it would take a load of the physical exhaustion side and hopefully help Parker to pace the fight better.
