I think the boxing community should applaud Parker...he came to fight and put up one. He's still a top 5 guy ,he will fight Joshua again no doubt , at his best he's a top guy. I expected this Parker ,i think Barry is in more shock his guy lost?? We need guys like this...great stuff.
He did well to win a few rounds but felt like he didn't take enough risks and seemed content to go the 12. Compare his performance to someone like Whyte who left everything in the ring, hurt Joshua and didn't stop trying to KO him til eventually going out on his sword. Still a good performance, and he comes across as a great guy, got a lot of respect for Parker.
Yeah good guy and all, a lot like Joshua but he's now lost and heads need to roll in Team Parker. Joshua was the better man but Parker hasnt developed as a boxer in the last 2 years.
Take risks with AJ you pay. Joshua a far better fighter than in 2015....... I would change things in his next fight...though you can't complain when he's winning.
Joshua was even more pathetic. This was supposed to be a demolition of Parker and all he did was hit air and looked stupid .
I agree with the exception that against Fury and Joshua I do think he has shown an improvement in defence. He made Joshua miss a lot tonight - which is something I think a lot of fans probably didn't notice. As the smaller man he just hasn't found a way to make those guys pay for missing.
I can't say anything bad about Joshua as he beat my guy fairly convincingly. I knew he wouldn't knock Parker out, that I knew, but I didn't think Parker would be so lifeless.
I guessed right, UD with a whiff of robbery, but I'm not going to applaud Parker too much as he must have known the judges had on matchroom glasses. Left too much in the ring for me. He had to go for broke but allowed Femi the stronger last few rounds, but then again the ref was a matchroom spoiler..
I thought he did fine - he spent too much time on the back foot, but I believe he effectively blunted Joshua’s attack with his feints, quick jab, and occasional counter punch bursts. I would love to see him come back strong. Throw him in with Whyte, that would be fun!
Yes let's compare them. One is an ex champion...the other is European level. One went 12 rounds and won at least 4 imo and the other landed one punch whilst getting the **** kicked out of him all fight. There's no comparison.
Joshua is evolving. You can see him being more cautious and smart about his approach in the ring. Parker beats the Joshua of 12 months agonbecause that AJ would of had a tear up and gassed. AJ was so comfortable last night he is getting better and better. Credit too his conditioning too cause he was by far the fitter man on the night.
In a small way it reminded me of Haye v Wlad. Parker being Haye. He wanted to attack but knew Joshua was waiting to pick him off if he did, had a few lunges in at AJ but he was not going to go gung ho and offer himself up to Joshuas counters and stayed patient looking for an opening that was never really guna come, losing rounds to minimal work and then it ended. Joshua is big and stiff but hes not slow and Parker looked faster, Parker clearly carries power, has enough stamina to go the distance without being out on his feet after 7 or 8 rounds and is still young, younger than the other big guns. Joseph Parker is still a big player in this division. He may not be exeptional but this is not an exeptional division.
Yes I said the same after the Fury fight. His defence is much better than before he uses head and upper body movement to be elusive, he totally took away Joshua's right hand. I think Joshua landed 2-3 decent right hands last night he simply wasn't there to be hit by the right hand most of the time. And yes you hit it exactly on the nail with Parker's deficiencies last night. He can make guys miss but can't make them pay for it yet. He needs to work on his counter punching and most improtantly being in positions to counter after he slips a shot. Usually when he slips a shot he isn't in the right position to fire back, he had to take a punch to land a punch all too often last night. He struggled to get inside, he was on the end of Joshua's jab most of the night, when he did have success it was after Joshua had come in and hit him allowing Parker in range to let his hands go in response. But when Joshua was keeping it long he just couldn't land. Parker needs to either learn to do what Povetkin does and cut off the ring and get off first by rushing taller opponents or learn to slip into counter punching positions when he does slip so he can counter. If he doesn't do one of these things he'll always struggle to mount any meaningful offense which is why he's had so many close fights.
