Bob Fitzsimmons Vs Gentleman Jim Corbett

This was a classic matchup, Corbett, the star, more serious about acting than fighting, coaxed back to take on the last big obstacle in his way. Fitz, the Middleweight champion, the hardest puncher and most canny operator in the game, who had laid waste to the biggest HW puncher of the time, Peter Maher, and battered Joe Choynski. Could Fitz outbox the crafty puncher? Could Fitz get his bombs off against not only a bigger man (again) but a far more intelligent operator than he had faced at the weight. A good big man always beats a good little man, right?

Everything pointed to a classic styles matchup. Corbett came out strong, and dropped Fitz about five or six rounds in IIRC. But Fitz pulled it out, stopping Corbett in the 14th round with a vicious left hook to the midsection.

Notable for being the first major sports event filmed; and at that time, the longest film ever made (at just over 100 minutes)

And also notable for crowning Fitz as one of the greatest P4P fighters ever; Bob Fitzsimmons was the first English born World Heavyweight Champion.
