Naive ? No mate that's how i see Hopkins career from 2002 , what do you disagree with ie which point ? Winky and Pavlik fighting 10lbs lower in their previous respective fights to Hopkins ? Tarver wasn't all ****ed up weight drained after filming his part as a Heavyweight in Rocky 19 ? or was it the part where i said Hopkins lost to Calzaghe because he couldn't bully him after round one ? What is naive about ANY of those statements ? they may be wrong in your opinion but Naive they ain't , well not in my opinion that is .

Definitely gets points for the age factor. However, alot of his success is him doing everything he can not to make a boxing match actually occur i.e. headbutts, tangle up arms etc etc.

Good luck to him in December, but I'll be going for Pascal

I agree with the anti-Hopkins stuff on this thread - I remember posting my own breakdown of his MW reign and poking holes in it, and the reaction from the US posters was phenomenal

Hopkins never got the big break he was after back then because he was a boring fighter to watch. Very technical, and blessed with longevity, but also a dirty fighter (one of his favourite trechniques is to punch his opponents hip nerve when clinching on the ref's blind side, etc).

The win over Tito (a career WW) was what put his name on the map, but he wasn't able to consolidate on it fighting the likes of Hakkar and a Joppy who had recently been destroyed by Trinidad, until he fought DLH. There will always be controversy over that fight for several reasons:

    1. DLH came up to MW and looked shocking vs Sturm prior to facing Hopkins - many believe Sturm was robbed.
    2. DLH went down from a supposed liver shot but was rolling around punching the canvas as if he had only slipped over.
    3. Hopkins signed with GBP within 2 weeks of their fight.

Since then, he lost to Taylor and moved up to LHW (why didn't he stop off at SMW on his way there, both he and Calzaghe would have been closer to their primes then huh? :hey).

At LHW, Hopkins has attempted to fill his record with name fighters, but as Josey has said, at his dictated terms.

Tarver - dropping weight from his movie role
Wright - career JMW fighting above his weight
Calzaghe - lost and carried on like a ***** whining to the ref and faking low blows to buy time to rest up and get his breath back
Pavlik - career MW fighting above his weight
Ornelas - who? But also a career MW/SMW fighting above his weight
RJJ - the rematch that was a decade too late, should never had happened, Green had just stopped RJJ in 2.30 minutes.

I hope Pascal knocks him the **** out and makes him finally retire like he promised his mama he would :yep

ohgoogle joe calzaghe news.its basically that whoever wins Pascal/Hopkins is going to try and lure Joe out of retirement
but Joe is definitely staying retired because he promised his mum and his son Connor who cried when he was KD by Hopkins and Roy.also a pic of his new woman from dancing with the stars.stunning:heyJoes punching well above his weight.might go into acting in the future.

Sheesh, I don't like how he refers to Kessler as a 'young pretender'

I wonder if he really said that instead of 'contender' by mistake, or if he's been misquoted?

'pretender' is a bit different to 'contender', and Kessler was neither, he was the WBA and WBC SMW champ.
