Erdei moved up and won the WBC cruisierweight title, so that lineage is officially out the window now it looks.
Erdei hasn't fought at light heavyweight for about 18 months and counting, with no fight scheduled. He relinquished his WBO title and Jurgen Braehmer now holds it. It seems fair for a new Ring Magazine champion to be crowned for this current fight.
This is true. Although he should be. But they stopped awarding titles for a while then, when they resumed, handed them out to their favourites at the time rather than following the lineage through the years where they were not giving titles.
I'd like to see the Ring have a conditional title snactioned for instances like this. I don't quibble with their argument that Dawson deserves the title if he beats Pascal, having already beaten the current number two twice. But does Pascal deserve the title if he beats Dawson? That's far less obvious.
