Also Dawson is an idiot for not taking any tuneups or fights since then. He's going to lose again guaranteed, letting a guy like him stay inactive is horrible

 

1st off,,, I cant believe HBO took this fight over the immediate Hopkins rematch...why?

It will be interesting to see how Chad responds to Steward... Might be a great move if he can get his offence going... but then again, I could see it going the way of the Jermain Taylor fiasco too. We'll see.

*I'm starting to think Pascal might need a new trainer as well... He still looks as ragged and raw as ever imo...

 

I'm pretty sure Hopkins would challenge Cloud instead of Dawson.

 

Yvon Michel said that the rematch clause was dependant on one of the networks matching or bettering the fee paid for the 1st fight... If not, the rematch contract can't be enforced.

I thought HBO would just under-bid the Dawson fight and thereby free up Pascal to make the Hopkins rematch. (ie. the fight everybody wants to see instead of the fight that nobody (except Dawson and Shaw) really care to see.)

 

First, HBO did not confirm they will air the fight. Second, Dawson-Pascal 1 was on HBO and Pascal-Hopkins on Showtime because HBO don't want any part of Hopkins anymore on their channel.

 

Right...a vacation. It isn't like he's stalling or anything. A Dawson rematch in May means a Hopkins rematch won't be until autumn/winter...meaning Hopkins will be almost another full year older than in their first meeting. :yep

 

I expect Dawson to be a different fighter with Steward in his corner, I like Dawson by TKO but it will take a lot to make the refs out there stop the fight.

 

I think Hopkins deserves a rematch more because his fight with Pascal was close, Dawson clearly lost his fight with Pascal. Dawson should've got it right the first time so it's his fault he didn't press the fight enough. I can't ignore the fact that Dawson has more of a right to a Pascal rematch because of the contract. The thing is, if he let his hands go much more when he first fought Jean then we would be talking of Hopkins ducking Dawson now instead of "Tentative" Chad's rematch clause with JP.

 

And despite that he'll probably still have the better gas tank

If Dawson whoops Pascal(which he should) then that'll be a huge dent on Jean's confidence. He may be in a worse condition mentally than he was before he fought Hopkins assuming that Dawson wins. Even with Hopkins age he still showed more willingness to win than Pascal did but how long will he keep tricking Father Time?

 

At this time last year Pascal just had a surgery for his shoulder and he manage to fight Dawson and Hopkins with 4 months between the 2 fights!

Pascal will be more careful with his shoulder with no need to overtrain! Even Pascal would have prefer to face B-hop right away but he need to get rid of the clause with Dawson first! so i guess we can see Pascal-B-hop 2 around august or September next year!

 

Since it's in Canada then I have no choice but to pick;

Pascal 115-113 in another daylight robbery...

 

Let's not assume ADDawson wins. Granted, I think Pascal will look pretty mediocre next time out. Hopkins has a way of ruining fighters mentally that I think might happen to Jean but honestly, I have 0 faith in Chad after what happened less time and I fully expect Steward to turn him into an even more cautious boxer. I think the smart money is on Pascal again, Dawson's inactivity and mental mindset make him a horrible horse to bet on

No disrespect to him but is it possible for Chad to get even more cautious? I hope not. Yes Steward is a great trainer but Dawson needs to work on his offense because he has good speed & throws well-placed punches. He should use those traits more often. TBH, I won't bet on this fight as any man could win. It's wishful thinking that Dawson becomes much more offensive-minded after one fight and with Steward it's highly unlikely.
