No I said I'm cheering for Pascal but I'm picking Kovalev to win. I did bet on the 9 over, and I also said that the fact that Pascal is a top 3 LHW, shows how weak the talent is for established LHW. I would pick Pascal to beat froch if he moved down to 168 though, their first fight was extremely close and Pascal was still green as hell. One of my favorite Pascal fights no doubt. I'm 100% certain that Pascal KO groves though, the Froch fight is a 50/50 to me but I'd pick Pascal.
Id rather see Kovalev fight Stevenson next and Pascal face the winner. In the meantime he has a few options : Julio Cesar Chavez V Andrejz Fonfara Winner Gabriel Campillo V Artur Beterbiev Winner Eleidr Alvarez Juergen Braehmer Isaac Chilemba Nadjib Mohamedi Thomas Oosthuzien But yes Pascal does deserve a rematch, however theres no rush for one
Pascal looked punch drunk from round 3 onward, it's better he doesn't get a rematch. Better stop a tad early and a tad too late.
I think it was a good stoppage once I saw how punch drunk he looked after the knock down. I do think he deserves a rematch he wants one. He put up a good fight. They just need to keep an eye on him and make sure they don't let him kill himself.
On the one hand it was a good fight. Not many other guys at LHW would make it a good fight against Kovalev so for that reason I part of me wants to see a rematch. On the other hand the outcome would be the same so there's really no point in a rematch.
If the unification doesn't get signed then Pascal deserves to cut back in line right behind Mohammedi. (who is patiently waiting for his crack and has jumped through all the necessary hoops, fair is fair...even though he'll get obliterated...) Kovalev vs. Pascal II would actually be more competitive and difficult to predict than Kovalev vs. Stevenson, IMO.
Why would he get a rematch?? So he can get his skull bashed in again? Pascal is too easy to predict, and Kova had him figured out by round 4. You can't beat Kovalev by fighting 20 seconds of each round. Apart from those crude and wide looping shots (which Kova shook off easily it seemed), Pascal has nothing on him, Kova is simply a class above. As for the stoppage, please. He was out on his feet, barely held up by the ropes, taking huge bombs from a guy who killed someone in the ring before. The referee saved him from what could have been permanent damage.
All of that is true but it was the most competitive anyone has been with Kovalev and looking at the light heavyweight landscape you can't really find anyone else that would be likely to be that competitive with him.
Agreed, it was still a tough fight. But the way I see it, Kovalev would end even sooner next time around.
I thought it was an overall dominant performance from Kovalev but it was undeniably competitive in spots - like I said, more than anyone has been with Kovalev since...I dunno, Boone I? :conf Caparello scored a flash knockdown but he never had Kovalev half as hurt as Pascal did, multiple times, in his couple of strong rounds.
