Pascal-Froch, final thoughts

    My final thoughts on the fight. A few weeks ago, I wrote that there were many "if" for Pascal to win a decision. If his shoulder was really healed. If he was really devoted to the sport. If he had a good strategy. I said at the time that all those "if" made it difficult to predict what he would do against Froch. The fight is tomorrow. We had plenty of coverage here in Montreal, from many of team Pascal members (promoter, trainer, sparring partners). It seems his shoulder is completely healed. It seems that Pascal trained like never before. As for following his coach's strategy, Marc Ramsay, after his last fight, had a discussion with him. If you don't want to follow what I tell you, I won't be your coach anymore. Something like that. They say Pascal had always followed his natural instinct but this time has agreed to study and learn. Well, that means all the "if" are gone. What do I think now? When I hear Froch, I hear someone arrogant, but I don't know him enough to know if he really underates Pascal or not. But it seems so. I don't know yet the results of the weight-in but the last one, one week prior to the fight, Froch was already uner 168, saying he feels good at 165. That's really small for a SMW. Pascal should be around 173 (Bute and Kessler are over 180 pounds). I'm happy that Pascal comes to the fight well prepared. I'm not sure at all Froch will win this one. Not enough respect for his opponent. He did not studied Pascal for real, saying he never does that. Well, Joachim Alcine always said the same thing and Santos made him regret not having studied better his style. I'm going for Pascal, my heart first but my brain is now following. I'm going further: if Pascal wins, that will be in a fashion Froch will not look good at all. Pascal may even knock Froch out. Of course, I can be all wrong.;)

    Santos beating Alcine has nothing to do with Alcine not studying Santos' style, and everything to do with Alcine sparring guys the caliber of Adonis Stevenson to prepare for Santos and also his weak chin. A fighter doesn't need to study his opponent on tapes as long as he has a good trainer who does.

    laffie, mate...don't be naive. Of course Froch's studied Pascal carefully; of course he's not taking him lightly, whatever he says in the press. He simply cannot afford a loss at this stage, given the opportunity cost.

    Here's some quotations from Froch about his opponent:

    "It's the biggest test I've had but I'm not going to treat it any differently or put more pressure on myself."

    "This is the big one and once I get this belt there will be big defences out there for me, starting with Jermain Taylor and I will be calling the shots then"

    "My training could not have gone any better "

    "It is a defining fight for both of us," said Froch. "If I'm as good as I believe I am, now is the time to prove it.

    and he can box, no doubt about it."

    "I'm not taking him lightly by any means," Froch said. "He's a very skilful fighter from what I've seen and he obviously punches hard. He's beaten the majority of his opponents early. He's coming to Nottingham to try to beat me."

    "This is the biggest fight of my life and I've been waiting for this moment since I had my first fight as an amateur so I wanted the best preparation possible, and that's what I got. I'm in the shape of my life, things couldn't have gone any better!"

    Froch is not a stupid man. He has a big gob and he's a twat, but he's not stupid. He'll be better than ever tomorrow. He will fight as intelligent a fight as he's capable of. He will not fight arrogantly/stupidly. He will aim to impress, not just to win by mere force and power. This is his big coming out fight and the rewards for winning are greater for him than they're for Pascal; so is the punishment for losing.

    I am sure Pascal's better than ever and extremely well prepared and that he'll fight the fight of his life. But so will Froch.:good

    Froch needs to keep pressure on. He's not normally all that busy in there so if he lets Pascal stick 'n' move he'll lose rounds in a hurry. He'll have to be aggressive, intelligently of course, and look to crowd Pascal as much as possible.

    If he does that, Froch wins.

    I'm going, and i can't wait. I've not seen much of Pascal, and i'm a huge fan of the Cobra, so I obviously want him to win, but this is a defining fight for both, and should be a corker!
