wasnt the reason Calzaghe rematched with veit was because veit became his mandatory for a second time going undefeated before being beaten by joe the second time?
That's true, though Calzaghe has avoided mandatories before without being stripped of his title. Freeman Barr was Calzaghe's mandatory for 18 months yet never got a shot, though I am glad Joe never added Barr to his resume that would have been a terrible mismatch. Calzaghe still shouldn't have fought Veit a second time as everyone knew Veit didn't have a hope in hell second time around, it's not like the first fight warranted a rematch, but then again that's boxing politics for you.
It's weird. Pascal showed a Glass Heart INSIDE the ring against Hopkins, by becoming tentative and inhibited during the fight and allowing a 46 year old with limited punching power to come forward and dominate him. Joe Calzaghe did NOT show a Glass Heart inside the ring against Hopkins, because even though his punches were not landing and he was getting outclassed for the most part, he still gamely kept coming forward and trying to win the fight. But Pascal has now shown the OPPOSITE of a Glass Heart OUTSIDE the ring by agreeing to a rematch with a man who dominated him for the vast majority of their fight. Whereas Calzaghe showed a Disgraceful Glass Heart OUTSIDE the ring by fleeing in terror from a Hopkins rematch, fighting a shot-to-**** fighter and then escaping into retirement, purely because he didn't want to fight someone who he couldn't flurry his way past with ease, who could make him look unskilled and amateurish, even while Calzaghe was outworking him. Calzaghe HATED fighting Hopkins, and KNEW how lucky he was after the bell to get the verdict. Swings and roundabouts. Both men have been guilty of GLASS at some point. :deal
And can't blame Joe for taking this fight. Veit built his rating back up and then his German tv backers ended up paying Calzaghe close to a million to fight Veit in Germany. This was actually a huge payday
well Joe got off the deck several times in his career to come bk and win...that shows he has heart...keep posting the Anti-Cal ravings...dude did"nt lose a fight for eighteen years, thats what is really bothering you..
1 million to fight a bum he already knocked out in one rd? Why would anyone in his position have passed on that payday? What was Hopkins excuse for turning down a few million for a US Calzaghe fight to instead fight Hakkar? Hopkins has gotten away scot free with alot of **** that he's pulled. That fight in 2008 should've been the rematch.
How can anyone say calzaghe lost to hopkins after about round 4 it was joe from then on. It wasn't even close. Hopkins just didn't throw enough he was throwing like 1 punch every round.
Heart ? Hopkins was offered the fight in 2003 and bailed. JC beat him in his own back yard , terms and weight.
