You think that Miranda would have beaten Pascal?

I mean, he's faced Diaconu and Froch.. he's not afraid of punchers. And Miranda is a crude puncher.

Jean Pascal is gonna be a handful for any opponent he faces. He's got all the attributes that make a fighter relevant for many years. One thing in particular that impresses me about him is the fact that he can come right back after being in trouble. He can be buzzed as Froch and Diaconu have shown but he can also recover quickly. He's a slippery fighter and if he is shaken by a punch he ties up quickly, ensuring that there can be no follow-up from the opponent. That's good amateur pedigree there. Pascal knows immediately to hold on and weather the storm rather than fight his way out and a few seconds later after he does so he comes back swinging.

Diaconu, on the other hand, is a fighter that will make for exciting fights but will always hit the ceiling created by his own limitations. I hate to sum up a guy's career in one fight but if you saw the Chris Henry fight you would have already known that Diaconu is an ordinary fighter who was given undue praise by destroying another ordinary fighter in Rico Hoye. It's important to put these showy KO victories in perspective. Sure, they're flashy and they can't help but garner your attention. However, one musn't lose sight of the level of opposition. In any event, Diaconu will always give a good show and that's due in large part to his chin and his power. You have in him a guy who can crack and is gonna continue coming forward so you'll get your money's worth watching him fight. I'm not insulting Diaconu. Not at all. I'm just calling it as I see it. Not everyone can be an all-around fighter but that doesn't mean you can't be a damn exciting one. Limitations make for excitement.

Great post! I noticed that as well. Pascal is smart in that he ties up when hurt to buy time, clear his head and get his legs back. I wish more fighters would do the same instead of taking unneccessary punishment trying to prove how brave they are.

i agree....chance for pascal to avenge the L...and you have to think that the fight appeals to froch....maybe...just maybe...if hes able to keep that "0" in tact and grab a light heavyweight strap....he could lure calzaghe out for one last dance

I'd like to see Pascal vs Froch 2..

Pascal said that Froch hits a lot harder than Diaconu.

Great posts are a way of life for me buddy. J/k I was very critical of Pascal after he got wobbled a few times against that journeyman when he co-headlined with Miranda. I figured he'd be knocked out in his next fight. All he's done since then was take the best that Froch and Diaconu, 2 punchers, had to offer. Sometimes I jump the gun and discredit a guy based on one shaky performance but I'm not the only one who does that. Pascal proved me wrong and I can admit it. It's a shame that more fighters don't show the ring intelligence he shows by tying up when hurt. Fighting your way out of trouble isn't exactly the best idea especially when you're in there with a puncher.

There's far better fights for Froch than a Pascal rematch. Bute, Kessler or Pavlik would all be better more lucerative opposition, and I'm not sure what the appeal would be for Froch to step up to Lightheavyweight just yet when the big fights appear to be at SMW.

At the time Miranda would have been a favorite. That's why HBO turned it down and it never happened.

    Obviously not now.

    Pascal would whip Miranda IMO.

    At this point, probably.

But Pascal still has massive flaws that a good boxer without huge physical disadvantages should be able to exploit. No huge knock on him - I respect Pascal now and I didn't really before, but he's really more of a must-watch fighter than a top-tier fighter. He still gets beaten by any of the elites, but I'd pay to watch him fight because his flaws and his style make him so damn exciting.

    I agree completely.

But his focus and speed are damn better.Wasn't really thinking he would be that fast and focused.

That was my point. Is it just me or is this guy mixing at a high level early in his career. Pascal has only had 24 fights. I think he is still improving, not physically but technically. I think him and kessler would be great fight to watch purely because of pascals speed and slippery style. I think he loses to kessler but it would be a hell of a fight to watch.

All he needs to do now is improve his technical game and be a little less aggresive. He cant just go around exchanging punches with everyone. Physically he has all the attributes to go far, remember he has only had 24 fights.

I forgot Pascal has only had 24 fights. I'm sure the best is still to come as long as he retains his hunger.
