Thank oh god for once somebody sees the same thing I see. Everybody on this site thinjks Calzaghe sominated this fight and I ndefinetly has to do with the fact it's european site but some posters simply don't know how to score fights.
Calzaghe clearly beat Hopkins, although not easily. Had Joe winning 117-112 for Calzaghe. Round 1 10-8 H Round 2 10-9 H Round 3 10-9 C Round 4 10-9 C Round 5 10-9 C Hopkins tries to land a cheap shot after the bell Round 6 10-9 C Round 7 10-10 E Calzaghe wins most of the round with the occassional pot shot from Hopkins, most are fooled by headbutt and punch at the same time but replays showed it was Hopkins typical head use Round 8 10-9 C Round 9 10-9 C Round 10 10-9 H Round 11 10-9 C Round 12 10-9 C 117-112 Calzaghe. In truth I felt Calzaghe deserved round 7 also, but was trying to give Hopkins some more points. The fight wasnt close, 2 judges scored very clear for Calzaghe and the other judge who scored for Hopkins gave Hopkins round 11 a clear Calzaghe round. Consider in Taylors 2 fights with Hopkins he wasnt as many points ahead in his 2 fights with Hopkins overall as what Calzaghe was in his one fight with Hopkins. As for Hopkins - Pascal, I will guess a winner nearer the time
I agree. Calzaghe didn't "dominate" Hopkins only delusional people think that. You don't dominate a fight when most of your punches didn't even land. Few or not Hopkins' punches were hard and effective. Calzaghe's aggression was plenty but ineffective. People see combos and go "OOOOOOOO" but it's really effectiveness that you should be trying to look for not just punches thrown but if the punches landed were effective.
Calzaghe landed more solid shots on Hopkins than Hopkins did Calzaghe. Its just Hopkins solid pot shots get mentioned as they were the only part of his game, where as Calzaghe was more varied. 117-112 Calzaghe
I'm thinking Taylor vs Hopkins but with Hopkins being 4 years older, and Pascal having a much better chin, a better trainer, slightly better ring smarts, and slightly better stamina than Taylor. Pascal, 7-5, 8-4. Clear, not like Taylor.
Calzaghe landed more solid shots? I have to respectfully disagree with that. More shots maybe but you have to remember that only a few were getting through. I think Hopkins landed the better shots but the only problem is that they weren't frequent. Even then I still thought he won. Hopkins didn't land only potshots he got in some headshots here and there too.
Pascal UD. He'll leap in and out like in the Dawson fight and will use his athleticism to great effect.
I don't think I'm wrong for picking B-HOP. To me he'll win the fight but in the end gets robbed because he is fighting at Pascal's home soil. So the fans will play a huge role everytime Pascal THROWS a flurry(NOT LANDING THE FLURRY) and the judges get fooled the majority of the time. The 115-112 score for B-HOP is off the charts, I saw him winning all but 1 round, Jones did nothing while Hopkind did a little. Jean Pascal's stamina also is a huge advantage for Hopkins in the late rounds, because if you are fading against an opponent like B-HOP, he sets the pace(even tired). Pascal leaves everything in the first half of the fight and then starts to fade(like it happened with Dawson) so he better get a comfortable lead in the early going so he can maintain it down the strecht. If Hopkins can fight the first 4 rounds he fought against Calzaghe he'll win the fight, and Pascal opens up more than Calzaghe, so expect Pascal down in the early going(rd. 3 or 4), and I don't see Pascal coming from behind against B-HOP from an early 3-4 point deficit. Even with the performance B-HOP made against Calzaghe he still received a 116-112 card against(incredible for how close I saw it), don't be surprised to see a wide score in Pascal's favor.
