This province had ordinary interest prior to INTERBOX and then GYM developing that interest within the province.

There was a big gap of like 10-12 years in this province, from 1985 to say 1997, where boxing wasn't much more popular than mini-putt from RDS...:D

I think it's something that can be developed and needs to. Main stream regular tv stations is the way to go in order to get the casual fans into this beautiful sport...all across the country !

Offering the fight through English PPV is the least that can be done...unless of course no one wants to offer it on their networks and that's where the problem may be...

I don't think they really made any efforts to sell the idea to English Canada. I would just pursue it further myself...

Things can be done but the real desire to do so must be there in the first place. :good

    Hmmm lets see....

Get paid $10,000-$15,000 by a tv station to broadcast the card.

Or sell thousands of PPV at $50-$60 a pop?

Hmmmm let's see... generate cross promotions down the line cause your market is constantly expanding or keeping the more or less same core of potential fans over and over again...

Immediate reward is OPTION 1...the big picture reward is OPTION 2 !

And where do you even get your $10-15 000 figures from anyways ?

Also, I seriously doubt that they sell many thousands of PPV feeds...on certain fights.

Don't ever forget that one of the main reasons now that boxing is this popular in Quebec, is because it was offered to such a vast audience at some point in the past.

Why did ordinary casual fans fall in love with Lucas ? The main reason is they were able to see him on free TV. That's what paved the way for today's boxers... Let's not forget that either !

Of course, no one outside Quebec watched the mini-putt, because it was in french. They should, that was an amazing show!

    :D

I agree with you on all points. I'm just explaining the reason why the promoters see it differently.

It didn't pay enough and the ratings were not good enough for the TV stations to stay in the game. In just a few years GYM went from broadcasting their fights on TVA, SRC and TQS/V.

Interbox broadcasted less then an hand full of Bute fights.

As far as the $15,000 figure goes. That's how much ESPN pays for their cards. So I highly doubt local tv stations are paying more then that.

Lucas became popular when he KOed Catley... drums roll.. on PPV for the green trinket. People are all over Stephane Ouellet's nuts before that. Don't ask me why.

As for Pascal being a cross country icon.. It wouldn't be long before some reporter make an article about the fact that he's a Quebec nationalist. And that wouln't go well in the other provinces.

Once again you don't see the BIG picture.Do you not realize that BELL TV is the ONLY carrier in Canada showing the event on PPV?Rogers cable,Shaw cable and Shaw Direct are all larger than Bell and their capabilities to reach more subscribers than Bell and could sell much more than Bell does.Your math and attempts to justify the promoters decision does not add up.
What is the name of the Arena where the fights being held...oh yes, the BELL Centre.
    Wise up.

Absolutely true. Bute wouldn't be such a big thing if some of his fights (including against Berrio for the IBF strap) hadn't been shown free on tv. Offering a English PPV to the rest of Canada might give GYM more money but you got to build this to obtain success in the long term.

Maybe Bell gave the biggest amount of money?
