Were there any boxers in history who often made their opponents quit like Lomachenkos opponents?

And as a bonus, has any fighter done it with a speed/reflexes/footwork oriented style?

Leonard when he made Duran say no mas! Ironically Leonard`s movement in that fight was used during a film study to explain how Rigo should have moved vs Loma by breaking his movement with sudden changes in direction.

There are some iconic stoppages like that one, and Ali vs Liston. But is there a fighter that did it often like Loma?

I don't honestly know , the jury was still out on Loma as far as I was concerned , but I have to say his footwork is exceptional ,as good as I have ever seen, his changing of angles and lateral movement is on a par with Pep's.Rigo stunk the joint out and should have been penalized for holding a lot earlier imo.

    No.

Usually, the very fleet-footed are defensive types not as interested in engagement. I've never seen four " no mas victories " in a row, incredible when you consider he did this against the caliber of opponents he faced.

Lomachenko has perhaps the best combination of footwork, footspeed, and balance in the history of filmed boxing.

Its as if he's perfectly balanced on magnetic rails and his opponents are standing on ice.

He circles and attacks the blind side with an array of quick punches giving his man no quarter. If he opponents clinches to catch a break, he knows how to get out and has learned to fight dirty if the other guy fouls.

He's part Willie Pep ( footwork and defense ), part Roberto Duran ( aggression and skills ), and part Henry Armstrong ( Durability and activity )

No. If they did that in the past there would be a riot or there would
be a big question over a fixed fight or mob connections.
No fighter in there right mind would quit like that.

Of course it's still out. His potential is seemingly unlimited but the guys had 10 pro fights, 10.

Lets see what develops resume wise. People seem to be in a great hurry nowadays to bestow greatness and rank on fighters that stand out. History tells us to be patient. Tho his early accomplishments are crazy he's got a long long way to go.

I agree in a different era the idea of quitting like this at that level would not happen so easily
I have never seen world champions like Rigo and Walter or any of his recent opponents dominated like that.....even in a different time champions were not humiliated on this level in front of the world like this.....the corners in these fights were trying to prevent irreparable damage to their fighters psyche and reputation by conjuring up an excuse to end the debacle they know they quit an noncompetitive fight.....Had Duran's corner stopped after the 7th with Duran looking flat from the start and being made a fool by coming up with the same excuse his reputation would have been easily salvaged.

that is like saying Duran's corner should have stopped Hearns vs. Duran after round 2 because it would prevent Duran from being knocked out by Tommy.

Julio Cesar Chavez at this peak made guys quit on their stool. He had those heavy hands and punishing inside game. Guys like Roger Mayweather and Sammy Fuentes, Edwin Rosario quit in the corner.

Well, yeah, he had only 11 fights. But 10 of those were for belts against at least solid contenders. He has pretty much no padding on his record. Now he isn't great - yet - but he is on a good way building his record and of course he looks as good as anyone I've ever seen fight.

Saw his post fight interview yesterday and when a journalist asked him if he thinks that he is fighter of the year with his three wins, Lomachenko chuckled and said no way, he doesn't deserve that the guys he won were not good enough for that. He also said he won because Rigo was too small at that weight. And when asked if he will dominate 135 when he moves up, he said he doesn't know he might feel like Rigo when he fought him. Seems he is not getting carried away so far. Humble and decent guy from everything I saw. Just wish he would fight in a heavier division, would be better for boxing.
