This faded version of Holmes would still have enough left for a green Tyson. Holmes on points. Mind you,the Tyson of one year later, say the post James Tillis fight one, would beat '85 Larry.
wow great fight. no doubt that the tillis fight was a turning point for tyson, he looked like a much more mature fighter after that. holmes tyson in '85 would have been very close, a decision either way. if we're talking '85 before holmes' loss to spinks, i'd go with holmes. if we're talking '85 after that loss, i'd go with tyson. this fight is about the intangibles, at this stage in their careers, hunger being an important one.
yes, holmes had experience,he was not a shot at this time, past prime but he was still a great fighter, and he did beat spinks in the rematch really, in 1986. i pick holmes to win by very close decision, but i can see tyson winning by ud dropping holmes as well. tyson even 19 years old tyson would be dangerous for anyone.at this time he was green but he was a ****ing very fast, accurate, strong and skilled puncher hungry of victory
The Holmes who won a close fight vs. Williams or the Holmes who lost a close decision to M. Spinks would beat a 1985 version of Mike Tyson IMO. Tyson has his moments, he might even drop Holmes but I think Holmes wins by decision (115-112 in a 12 rounder with a knockdown, 144-140 in a 15 rounder with a knockdown).
The best time for these two to have met would have been 1986. Then we would have had a FIGHT. The pre Tillis Tyson would have dropped a slim decision to Holmes. After Tillis,I'd favour Tyson by late rounds tko.
in 1986 holmes would have no chance against tyson86, the tyson who destroyed berbick would destroy holmes as well.
Tyson KO: Jack Johnson Joe Louis Joe Frazier George Foreman Rocky Marciano Jack Dempsey Gene Tunney Ezzard Charles Floyd Patterson Ken Norton Earnie Shavers Jim Jeffries John L Sullivan Ron Lyle George Chuvalo Oscar Bonavena Lennox Lewis Hasim Rahman Vitali Klitschko Nikolay Valuev Wladimir Klitschko Ali, Holyfield, Holmes all UD Tyson.
As do I, Holmes in 1986 battled a prime Spinks to what I felt should have been a win, while Tyson was being taken the distance by James Tillis and Mitch Green. I don't think that Mike reached his peak until about the Pinklon Thomas fight, and even a 38 year old inactive Holmes had his moments against a fully primed Mike.
foreman would ko tyson, frazier would tko tyson late, vitali klitschko 50% chance, lewis 50% chance, marciano 50% chance, not even in dreams tyson would ko chuvalo, tyson could not hit even the face of valuev, he would beat by ud, but he would not ko valuev. ron lyle would give the hell to any version of tyson, styles make fights.
1983 was the last year of Holmes' prime........ '83 Holmes still schools the green '85 Tyson over 12 rds....... By 1985, Holmes was soft and slowed, plus bored... His '85 loss to Spinks clearly indicates that Holmes was getting tired and lazy... MR.BILL:bbb
