Marvin Hagler vs Sergio Martinez @160 Thomas Hearns vs Paul Williams @154 Roberto Duran vs Antonio Margarito @154 You thoughts? :bbb :bbb
Bollocks! You know who would win, it would clearly be the old school!! The best fighters have been and gone...
Hagler grinds martinez down and stops him late, I've not seen anything from Martinez that would suggest otherwise. Hearns crushes williams, this isn't really up for debate. Duran has a war with Margarito @154, out of the 3 I give Margarito the best chance of taking anything away from the fight but I would still pick Duran to win a close but clear decision.
Hagler had better boxing skills than Martinez and would win in a brawl. Sergio is out of his league here. He gets hit so often with straight shots, Hagler would have a field day with his jab. Williams's defense is dog **** and Hearns had arguably the best right cross ever. Duran was far more refined and skilled than Margarito, but that fight would at least be action packed, although one-sided.
Hagler is beatable at the time when the 160 lbs division was not at its best.. Aside from SRL, Bobby Watts and Willie Monroe defeated him though both guys have been knocked out in the rematch.. :yep But still, the fact remains.. Marvin Hagler is beatable.. :deal And Martinez is a perfect candidate to execute the proper game-plan.. He is not slow on his feet, and he's got the cardio to keep on moving.. He's got a good chin now and recovers quickly after taking some punishment.. Duran was able to make the fight close.. Martinez can also do that.. :smoke
I just thought Prime Williams would be a great match for the 154 version of Hearns.. :think In fact, he is.. :deal
I just can't see any of the two giving the other an edge round per round.. Both can withstand each others punch.. The question is, how many rounds can they last with them fighting one another.. I haven't seen a fight, I mean a plain brawl that would end in a decision.. :hey Both have same style and now it goes to, who's got better chin? I think its Margarito.. :smoke
You are underrating Martinez' skills here.. Although I agree that his hands down style is not fun to watch.. Still he becomes effective most of the time.. Nobody gave him a chance against Williams for their 2nd fight, and he clearly beats Pavlik.. He is underrated here.. :smoke
Prime Williams got an iron chin.. Until Martinez Knocked him out.. Same thing with Hearns, until Hagler and SRL knocked him out.. :yep Both guys have the tendency to just slug it out.. Meaning its close range.. :deal I really think that was going to be close.. :hey
