“The dude is a monster. That’s what I think, not only is he humongous, but he’s extremely experienced. That’s what makes him the most dangerous. Not just the size, but he has so much experience in MMA and in kickboxing, and he’s a Dutch trained kickboxer. I was in Amsterdam for five years. I know what the Dutch train like out there. The dude is a monster. I don’t know how anyone is going to stop him any time soon.

He doesn’t seem to get tired. All he needs to do is hit you one time. He’s fast, he’s athletic, and he’s strong as hell. He’s everything you need all in one body.”

It's amazing what he has become, and only now is he in his prime.

Barry has no real belief in himelf and is too busy idolising Brock, CC and Overeem. Not that I disagree with him but these guys are your rivals. You can praise them but you should have the mentality that they are not your equal physically!

Can you blame him though? He's a really humble kid. Got alot of time for Barry. Would have been even better if he was back in the K-1 and fighting on independant circuits.

I suspect Barry realises that he's never really commited to MMA enough to expect to be an elite fighter, not given 2-3 years hard graft cross training at a major camp.

Its really the same story as alot of kickboxers in MMA, many of them have already earnt good money and view MMA as more of a sideline late in their career.

It'll be interesting to see whether Overeem's crossover sucess(even if its really goign the other way) results in more of them taking MMA seriously. We had a bit of a crossover back in the day with Crocop and Hunt but really at that stage there wasnt much difference in the money on offer between MMA and K1. Today things have obviously shifted in MMA's favour and you have someone like Saki talking testing the waters while in his mid 20's.

I still think that kickboxers taking MMA seriously could end up being the most sucessful crossover fighters. We can argue which area of MMA is the most "skillful"(I do side with striking personally although not to a massive degree) but there one obvious difference between kickboxers and wrestlers or BJJ guys, there used to getting punched in the face. Obviously some wrestlers and BJJ guys are tough as nails and have the mentality to take punishment but we've seen that many do not and in MMA its a flaw they can get away without addressing for too long before it catches up with them.

He was asked the question and answered it, then someone posted it. You're aiming the gun at the wrong person.

He is a nice guy who always looks happy. I like him but he needs more belief.

With his kickboxing, if he actually had some self belief and grappling he has potential.

He has oodles of potential. But he fights more like a fan. And is overawed by the big stage. First off he has to loose some weight and get down to at least 220lbs. Have you seen his striking? Seriously he has the best pure striking of any heavy in the UFC. I just wish Pat would take his career more seriously instead of scoffing Pizza's in-between fights.

The weight isnt an issue so much as his ground game, when your getting choked out by an aged Crocop you know you need to improve.
