After the first round Carrión's corner was already icing the nape of his neck.

Ref reading the riot act to Scaringi, not sure what exactly he did.

Scaringi's offense is a mixture of jabs while on his toes moving laterally, wild windmilled overhand rights ducking in, and ear-level hooks leaping toward Carrión. Primarily lead rights and 1-2s from Carrión.

Scaringi got more pokes in during the third.

29-28 Carrión

 

Scaringi hurt in the fourth by a 1-1-2. He dives in and holds, then comes up whipping loose hooks. Good shots being traded by these feather-fists, jacking each other's jaws around. On paper this looked to be a guaranteed hard eight, but at this rate we may just see a stoppage in either direction.

 

Blatant hit on the break from Scaringi. Ref already clearly doesn't like the cut of the guy's jib. I'm expecting him to dock a point or two if not DQ him.

edit: wow, let him off with a very stern warning.

 

49-46 Carrión

 

Low blow from Scaringi early in the 6th.

Really testing every last shred of patience in the corpulent official (whose shirt and sleeves are sopping with sweat, btw)

 

59-55 PNCF, winning the hook battle throwing shorter and more compactly, and so more accurately. Still pressing the attack with the 1-2.

 

7th was a war. 69-64 Carrión

 

Round 8

Carrión is keeping a tight guard, sawing with a double jab as Scaringi flies in and drops hooks on his sides. Carrión is countering with short hooks slapping the visitor across the cheek and straight rights harpooning the chest. Scaringi flopping into Carrión and flailing behind the head, making lots of contact with his inner wrist and forearm more so than his knuckles. Ref breaks up a particularly rough clinch and you can tell he's just so done with all of this. Hooks traded. Uppercut by Carrión. Scaringi coming forward, but Carrión lays his arm down over his neck and pushes him down into a headlock. Scaringi then pulls Carrión down onto the canvas by his arms. Ref separates them. Super messy now. Scaringi flopping in with every attack, grabbing Carrión around the waist after punching.

The ring announcer completely botched that reading. He said Carrión's name after both of the first two scores, and there was a long pregnant awkward silence while Scaringi just lowered his arm before the last card was read out.
