Just heart breaking, gut wrenching news. So sad for his family, friends, trainer and everybody who had the pleasure of knowing him. Way too young, it just rips my heart out every time this happens to one of the amazing warriors that put it on the line for the entertainment of fans. It’s hard to come to grips with when this happens in the sport we all love. It really puts into perspective just how little a win or a loss, or a bad outing means in the big picture of life. Rest In Peace young man.
Maybe a last minute brain scan should be done the week of the fight to make sure nothing was injured in sparring.
RIP Patrick Day. This is true fourth death this year. It’s so sad that we are starting to hear more about it this year. At some point there has to be some kind of change.
I watched it live. Heartbreaking. I’m sure he’ll be in Charles Conwell’s corner for every fight rooting for him. Rip Champ
Every time is another pebble on the balance for me to stop watching the sport. And every time I get dragged back in . We are a sick lot.
That’s part of the absurdity this sport conjures. While I can understand your frustration with Wilders comments I believe you’re not accounting for the moral paradox they face when deriving self inspiration, motivation and goal visualization. I would never tell a fighter with his attributes to change what gets him to the promise land. Wilder needs to maintain the same attitude if he’s to have a “fighting” chance at staying successful. Plus, I seriously doubt if you were to transpose wilder into Patrick’s opponents shoes he wouldn’t be expressing a similar level of grief and anguish.
One of the first long form articles I wrote on here was about our inherent primal masculine testosterone fueled bloodlust being one the primary motivating factors for why we watch the sport. It's something we don't like to acknowledge, but it's there.
Oh, no. This should not have happened. Very disheartening. A warrior to the end. He would not quit. The corner, the ref, the ringside physician let Patrick down. His heart was too big. Rest in peace, Patrick.
This, so many times. Honestly - he should be sanctioned if he keeps that **** up. Bad look for the sport, and bad attitude in general.
That got me right in the feels. In terms of prevention going forward -- where do you start in a sport where the main aim is to render your opponent unconscious. Rest Easy Patrick
You know those same desires got Rasputin poisoned, stabbed, shot and Lorena Bobbitted roughly a century ago. Even monks fall short and deep into the lascivious wants of the flesh. Ya heard it here first. Sorry I digress, suddenly felt the need to talk about something less melancholy.
