You’re right he was throwing punches almost to the bitter end which is what has me still wondering what separates this from what Romans practiced centuries ago.
I haven't seen the fight nor do I want to, did this happen with one punch? The only other fight I remember in which someone "died" with one shot is Johnny Owen. RIP to the poor lad, just shows how fortunate we are this doesn't happen more often.
Very touching tribute. He sounded like a genuinely nice guy, who really didn't need to be boxing. Not sure if I can take much more of this as a fan. Something's badly wrong with the sport and isn't being addressed. This shouldn't be happening so frequently.
RIP Patrick Day. You were a skilled and exciting fighter, and could've developed into so much more. Does anyone know if Patrick had a particularly extreme weight cut? Because, IMO, this is the reason these incidents are happening lately. And they will continue to happen whilst the effects of weight cutting are slowly shown to us. After all, it is a pretty 'new' practise in boxing, and not a good one. Older fighters sometimes drained, but never like this, simply because they couldn't. I also think the sparring practises might come into play. Just speculation on my part.
