Round 1 Nielsen is landing the jab, more aggressive. Markussen is waiting, not doing much, looking to load up on a big shot, keeping his glove cocked and ready, sizing Nielsen up. Nielsen roughly grabs and tosses Markussen onto the ground, no warning from the ref. 10-9 Nielsen
Round 2 Nielsen is still busier, dashing in and out with the left hand scoring on a statuesque Markussen. Good left hook by Markussen. Nielsen goes to a knee but isn't given a count. They get tangled up and both hit the canvas. 10-9 Markussen 19-19
Round 3 Nielsen throws a patter of light shots into the guard, keeping Markussen on the ropes. Nielsen digs with a left on the body and Markussen goes to a knee. He stays there. Waved off by the ref before reaching the full count, and Markussen tries playing it off as though he is shocked. TKO3!!
It just did. Maybe you're thinking of Mikki Nielsen, his cousin? He fought a couple of hours ago on the "Ondt Blod" undercard.
He was wrestled to the ground, not even a legit knockdown :rofl atsch Rudy was obviously looking for a way out though.
Some of the comments on Twitter are hilarious. I spent a while just scrolling through and clicking "translate". I guess most Danes really don't like Nielsen. There was lots of "KILL HIM, RUDY!" I'm not sure what people were expecting of the old man, though. He's freaking 38, and his prime was over a decade ago (when he beat Haussler and Cherifi and had a close loss to Ottke) - since which he gets knocked out every time he "steps up" - and that is to Brian Magee or Sergey Tatevosyan level! I know it shouldn't take much to beat Nielsen, as he and his cousin are both fairly pedestrian - but a guy this old that was never even amazing to begin with?
From what I can gather, the Nielsens are viewed sort of the same way the Kamedas are in Japan? Or like Danny Green in Australia? Like, the majority of boxing fans see them and their fan base as being uncouth thugs/rednecks?
The knockdown was very bizarre and could have not been ruled because of Nielsen grabbing and slamming him, but there was a punch landed before that (looping left on the body, which is what made Markussen start trying to hold him) - and the bigger blame belongs with him for staying down for so long when he clearly wasn't that hurt than on the ref for not having more control of the situation. Everybody involved made it an ugly spectacle and rip-off for the fans that paid to see it on PPV or in person.
