How much he contributed is debatable but still he played a role in revealing the lack of ground game results in losing, and how effective thai elbows was in his winning fights.
Good martial artist, pioneer in MMA but a total POS outside of the cage. I don't think his name sits even close to the best among the early pioneers though. The other Smith had far more success despite being from a similar background. Also a good dude and not a total POS like Patrick was - disclaimer Patrick and Maurice aren't related at least to my knowledge)
