Patterson ('62) vs Foreman ('74) over 15 rounds

Jimmy Young was a natural heavyweight who could take a punch. Patter was a glass chin super middleweight. Foreman didn't take Young seriously and didn't even come to Puerto Rico 3 weeks before hand to get used to the heat like Gil Clancy wanted him too. Don King also asked Foreman could he carry the fight a few rounds because the more commercials they could show close circuit the more money.

Jimmy Young was just lucky that Foreman had a huge ego and didn't take him seriously. Patterson glass chin wouldn't of held up period. Foreman also went 10 pounds twice against Gregoria Peralta a boxer who had much better chin than Patterson and didn't get tired.

 

Afraid this would be a replay of the two Patterson-Liston fights.

 

Floyd didn't so much freeze in the second go as he got tagged and couldn't recover. He moved well and looked ready to put up as good a fight as he could but his whiskers didn't hold up. Floyd didn't have a glass chin as many think, he was floored enough for sure but he also got up and as in the third ingo bout went on to win. He just wasn't put together to handle a true heavyweight shot. That having been said he would never have been able to take a Foreman onslaught without going down several times before being stopped.

 

if patterson dosn't freeze or feels he was under as much national pressure as he was against Liston, (and there is no guarantees he would be) then its a harder fight for Foreman than the Quarry fight he did not want.

Foreman in 1974 was as strong as a truck but as green as the grass. Patterson with his lightning timing of 62 would beat Foreman to the draw quicker than a 32 year old Ali did and Floyd hit a whole lot harder.

I would still not bet on Floyd but if Foreman did not want Quarry or a 1970 -71 version of Floyd Patterson he might have fought why would George want a 1962 version of Floyd?

 

I've always looked at Patterson as a tougher, stronger, faster, better version of Joe Frazier myself.

 

Patterson was hard to defeat.

His opponents had to crawl around on the canvas to find him.

The Foreman of '74 wasn't anything green any longer, after stopping Frazier in the previous year George was nothing short of awesome in his ko of Norton during this year. His shortcomings were obvious later against Ali, but again that was against Ali.

Foreman definatley
I mean Liston said he hit his sparring partners harder than he hit Floyd.
He said he knocked out Floyd with his set up shots.
He can't survive any version of Foreman

 

I see Foreman hitting Patterson with one of his sweeping uppercuts which is the beginning of the end...if not the end for Floyd. Patterson might be troublesome for a few rounds due to his speed but George would catch him sooner or later and when he does it's over.
