I wouldn't say a quick stoppage by todays standards. But maybe in 56-57 they may have said that. Ruby Goldstein was one of those old school refs that wasn't too quick in stopping a fight, but there may have been other factors involved. Jackson's history of taking punishment. I don't know when it happened but I do know that at one time his license was pulled for his own safety. Also the fact that he hadn't won a round, his face was disfigured and he had been down 3 times already. Jackson and his corner were very brave to let that go on and protest the stoppage.
Quite the opposite, the fight went on too long. The Ring at the time did a feature on it being one of the worst beatings ever meted out in a heavyweight title fight. Jackson was finished, never the same again.
