Patterson vs Cleveland Williams

I'd forgotten about Valdes actually but was under the impression that D'Amato wasn't too keen on facing Cooper either. I could be wrong, but it still doesn't alter the general picture of Cus instilling an unhealthy mentality into Patterson where certain fighters were concerned. Especially when Patterson went on to do OK after he left D'Amato despite his physical decline.

 

I would pick Patterson to knock out Williams, but it's really hard to say. Williams is a dangerous puncher and a huge problem for Patterson, who has a glass jaw.
Pick em fight.

Sorry bud, but Patterson did NOT have a glass jaw. Losing by stoppage to Liston and Ingo isn't indicative of not being able to take a punch.

 

Yeah, but Patty had either been KO'd or bounced off the floor in roughly 12 of his pro fights for a total of 15 to 20 something times......... His chin was shaky at best........

Eh. I wouldn't say so. Every time he's been knocked down it's been from an accumulative effect. He never got knocked down by one punch and he often to took punches because of his style. I say he had a good chin.

Nnearly every right hand Ingo threw at him, Patterson went down. If that's not a glass chin I don't know what is.

What.... He probably had the worst jaw on earth. He got bounced by Bonavena, Quarry twice, and a bunch of other fighters. He's probably been knocked down the most out of all the heavyweight champions. I would say he has a glass jaw.

 

That's a dense statement at best: there's a world of difference between being hurtable and having a glass jaw, a huge ****ing world of difference. Johansson's right was probably capable of knocking any heavyweight cold if he landed it right, yet Patterson continued to get up time after time, taking an astonishing amount of punishment. He was attempting to get up against Liston too in spite of the size disadvantage and the psychological tangle Liston had him in. Bonavena and Quarry were also big strong men with clear physical advantages, yet Floyd went the distance with both beating Bonavena in the process. Did he end up out cold against any of these men despite practically being a light heavyweight at the side of them?

Having a glass jaw means being taken clean out by non-punchers and having little to no recuperative power in the event of being hurt ie a complete inability to withstand punishment. Patterson only fell to the biggest hitters, just about always got up in defeat OR victory and had good recuperative powers. He could be hurt and knocked down, but so could Archie Moore. You telling me Moore had a glass jaw?

I'll say it again - Patterson didn't have a glass jaw. End of.

Patty's skills were much better than Willie's, but Patty might be too small and weak to ward off the 212 pound "Cat" Willie for 10, 12 or even 15 rds.?.?

Willie was strong and powerful, yet flawed....... BUT! Willie could win this proposed dream fight....... If Willie lands early with a whopper or two, Patty's ass is grass......

Patterson did not have a glass chin. He did get knocked down by some goof troopers but he always got up.

If you get back up from a knockdown, that's just heart to me, that doesn't show how you can take a shot.
if you manage to stand up while eating the shot then that proves chin.
