Late 50s Floyd Patterson vs Sergei Kovalev. Patterson was 182 pounds at this time so not much bigger than the LHW limit of 175 pounds.
Patterson mops the floor with Kovalev. Patterson is a better boxer, WAY faster, and even hits harder. Patterson getting seriously underrated lately. Patterson by savage KO.
Patterson KOs Kovalev and Ward cold. Too much speed and power. https://streamable.com/8dy3p
When you look at an early Patterson, you see one of the all-time great light heavyweights. He started running into tougher fights as a Heavyweight and did quite well there. He lost a questionable decision to Joey Maxim but Patterson was very young. He KO's Kovalev but I could see Patterson at light heavy, having trouble with Bob Foster.
I think on fight night Kovalev might be bigger. Wouldn't matter though. Patterson was just better at everything. Different class of fighter.
Patterson should take this fairly easily. Contrary to popular misconception he hit quite hard. His weakness was his ability to take it, not dish it out.
I'm going for Floyd, I didn't like the way Kovalev reacted to Ward's body shots.I think Patterson cuts him in half!
I've always thought he might and ,now I've seen Kovalev wilt under punishment from a guy who isnt that big a puncher I still think so .Kovalev was exposed as a front runner I was never high on him ,I don't like the way all his punches are long and he hasn't a clue about fighting inside. The idiots that overated him on the basis of him beating moderate Pascal and a 50 years old Hopkins look pretty stupid now.
The first body shot Sergi gets hit with he says in Russian no mas !!!! Runs back to his corner crying low blow and quit.
