Not a problem. In truth, Patterson was giving a prime Ali fits. Some would say Patterson was out boxing Ali for a few rounds! Patterson went down 18 times in his career. To get a better understanding of his durability, can you list the names of the fighters who floored him. On ability, I think Patterson's durability compares favorably to Charles, and Walcott, except in my opinion Patterson had better speed, and hit harder than either of them.
I don't think Patterson getting knocked down a lot is a bad mark against him, if he gets up to win. But the way he LOST to Ingo, and Liston twice, is pretty bad. I wouldn't have much faith in him against a huge heavyweight puncher with speed and/or strength.
Let's see...:think Jacques Treecy (sp.) flash Rademacher flash Harris flash Ingo 7 Ingo 2 Sonny 3? Jerry Q. 4 Ali 1 Bonavena 1 (questionable) That = 21, I thought I was right, not sure now.
Patterson had an average chin. I argued that more than once and I´m tired of that. He had an average chin. Fact.
Just thought of this. Has there ever been another fighter who, AFTER losing their Title and never regaining it, was actually a better fighter from that point on?
I've got that fight in a silent version; you're probably referring to the end of the 10th or 11th round when Eddie (obviously not hearing the bell) ripped several shots to Floyd's head before the ref jumped in. Patterson's reaction? He turned around and walked to his corner.
You could say Wlad but he regained his title. Schmeling perhaps? Although, he shouldn´t have lost his title. Hm, good one. :thumbsup
I don't think anyone is saying he has Chuvalo's whiskers b. It just seems like too many think that any stiff puncher lands big on him and he's going out, something he repeatedly disproved in spades!
